Newb to miata boosting.

With that said. I am going to guinea pig the new cxracing manifold and down pipe. I have started sourcing parts for my build, tr6 intercooler, 1.8 torsen, drive shaft and axles, act street strip clutch, using the speedy racer turbo for the t3 manifold, working on all the supporting mods as well. I need a megasquirt still so if anyone has one for sale or can build one I am on the lookout for one. I have a 92 1.6 NA with 155 on the clock. I'm not new to boost, just new to na to boost, so I have a basic knowledge of what i need to do. I am going to get the aem wideband, flow force 640 ev 14 injectors, not 100% sure on coils as of yet. I Have 2.5" exhaust already and will most likely keep it because the cxracing is 2.5 from the turbo. Any advice, flaming, comments or questions are welcome. I will post up more info as I acquire parts, get them installed and running.

Welcome. It sounds like you have the right idea. You can research the parts you're looking at and keep an open mind in case a kit comes up for sale here that will meet your needs. I'm not sure about the cxracing stuff but there's nothing wrong with giving it a shot I guess. I can say from my own build that the Flyin Miata stuff is pretty solid if you don't need tubular headers. Coils probably won't be necessary unless you're planning to run a lot of boost. Enjoy!

Since when does CXRacing have a new 1.6 manifold?

Well it looks like they copied their newer 1.8 manifold and made it work for the 1.6. I wonder if it will have the same fitment issues as the 1.8 one does.

I would also just buy a FM manifold and down pipe for about the same price that CXRacing charges.

loak1er 03-20-2018 11:34 AM

Fitment issues? Tell me more please. I have searched but haven't seen an information on the newer cxracing kit at all. I wanted to get a t3 manifold with a downpipe since I dont have a welder or access to one, and cant find any downpipes for t3 prefabbed besides cx. I had a similar manifold on my mazdaspeed 3 and it was fine. Not a cx but it was a xspower manifold. I haven' pulled the trigger yet on the manifold or turbo but that was my plan.

yeah you might want to do some research on this junk before diving in, because without a welder you're gonna have a bad day

If you want t3 then MKTurbo. If you want T2 then got FM/DP combo. If you want to be baller then VVT built motor swap and TSE kit.

viperormiata 03-20-2018 12:48 PM

Get a 1.8 vvt

sixshooter 03-20-2018 03:10 PM

Get a 1.8 rear differential and axles first.

I have the 1.8 diff already.

This is pure gold.
T3 - MKTurbo
T2 - Flyin Miata
EFR - Trackspeed

I'm pretty sure there would be a lot more info on the CX kit if it was a bolt-on option. FWIW I was in the same position not that long ago... I wanted to turbo but didn't want to spend big $$$. I kept my eye out and an opportunity came up on some used stuff and i pulled the trigger. Honestly though, buying new has so many benefits I would at least consider one of the vendors mentioned above. A new kit will come with some support and the assurance that everything is in working order and will fit your application. With used stuff there's a lot more dicking around.

loak1er 03-20-2018 06:25 PM

It's not for the lack of research, i know what kits are out there, what they cost ect, It looks like it wouldn't be that bad. I haven't found anything on the 1.6 as far as this kit goes. I wanted to save some dollars, have something different and see if it's any good or not. Hence guinea pig. Worse case I get totally fucked. The advice is greatly appreciated. I may just wind up ditching this idea and shoot for the Kraken cast mani and dp with the 2560 snail. Dont need the headache if shit isn't gonna fit since I have no welder available.

concealer404 03-20-2018 06:52 PM

If you don't want a headache, then i'd suggest you use stuff that's known to work.

Not gonna lie, I totally looked at the CX stuff as well. People have had success with the intercoolers. But if you're asking for advice on kits I guess you got it. Maybe what people don't always break down about the different kits is this: The exhaust manifold gets insanely hot and failures happen. And it's not exactly easy to make a header that works reliably but there are a few. The header, turbine and the mouth of the downpipe see so much heat/ expansion/ contraction / stress that they require really careful manufacturing. So maybe start planning around the manifold/ downpipe and go from there? It's just a more likely path to success but definitely not the only one. If you go with the CX kit let us know what works and what doesn't. Good luck, post pics of whatever you choose and I guess pics of cats?? cheers

Saving some dollars and risking money to test something unproven are two very different roads. Getting totally fucked isn't fiscally sensible.

Ok. So where I stand now. I picked up and older begi t2 manifold and Downpipe, a used gt2560r w/dual port iwg and ecb, a brand new cxracing intercooler piping kit, a tr6 fmic, a diypnp I picked up off of craigslist that I had to rewire to trubokitty instructions, flowforce injector adapters w/ gt500 injectors, an innovate wideband, a torsen 1.8 lsd conversion, a VTPS conversion. I know it's been a minute since I've posted on this thread, but I've been sourcing stuff. As soon as I am done with ironing out my diypnp stuff I plan on installing ecu, then injectors. Still need to get my lsd and clutch in as well. Then I will see where I stand for boost.

loak1er 05-29-2018 11:33 PM

So far all in on build including car, wheels, tires, roll bar, exhaust, suspension, lsd conversion and boost stuff I'm sitting around $4500. Not sure how I pulled that off but I did.
