I'm Ryan, everyone calls me Seven.
I've owned 40+ cars since I've been 16, I'm 28 now... finally starting to slow down as well. Everything from a 494whp (all motor 643whp on a 150 hit) C5 with 4.10s to an S13 with an SR/T28, 06 STI, another C5, 350Z, FR-S, Boss 302, etc etc - I get bored easily Originally from the Philly area, moved here in september, work for MS (like most on the east side of Seattle do). I've done many HPDEs on the east coast, finally getting my licensing done for club racing on the west coast... Probably running IT-S and SPEC944/PRO44 (read on). The g/f (who auto-x'd for years) will be running with me. She has a '13 Focus ST as her DD. I have a '13 F150 FX4 (loaded, air-conditioned seats son!) for a DD. I'm too tall, old and fat to get into a SPEC miata (ie: caged) but I have the (aforementioned) 944 for club racing. The Miata (a 1990 I got for $3k with a hardtop) is for fun on the street (ie no cage), thinking of a 200-230whp stock motor build (which if my old knowledge serves me right, is about the limit for the 1.6L), with some Konis/Springs, pads/lines/fluid, and probably some wider 15s (maybe 7, maybe 8, not sure). I'm here to basically find out how to get the most for my money and find out what parts exchanges - ie the injectors that work for cheap? can use a 1G DSM BOV? etc etc. Basically looking to make good power for little money. The idea is to spend about $5500 (parts only of course) to have the car setup for street fun. I think it's doable considering parts are cheap and I'm not really re-inventing the wheel here either. I figure I'll try and stick with this car for a while since I now have 4 vehicles in my stable, something for every occasion right? haha Too much typing you say? Wall of text you say? :dealwithit: Pics you say? Ok... Welcome, loser. Safe limit for all miata motors is around 220-240wtrq.

For $5500 you should be able to build a dead nuts reliable 240whp car. Hell for that money you could probably do a 1.8 swap too or some ebay rods.

Reasonable goals. Reasonable budget. Reasonable experience.
Only patience may have the opportunity to sway you from your goals, but you will do well here, I predict. |
Welcome
Walls of text are only cool if they're followed by pictars. Otherwise cool story bro. Sounds like you have reasonable goals and a reasonable budget. Good for you. Now for the execution portion of it. |
Pics you asked for... so pics you shall have, loaded this thread up with them :)

The toyobaru and the miata are different animals and we're different for the time I owned them. I used the FR-S as my DD/everything at the time I owned it and sadly was just disappointed with the power (but definitely not the handling). It needs more power, pure and simple. I decided it wasn't worth turbocharging a brand new car with a warranty. The miata is the opposite personal situation but a similar power situation. I had 2 C5s both were great honestly. I miss the black one a lot, it made tons of power and handled very well. I sold it to make the move to WA. |
Sweet car history, welcome!
Start a build thread and build the car properly, you won't regret it. |
