Newbie From FL Supra Motor ~ Miata Chassis

22 Attachment(s)
Hello all, so just a quick back ground on me, bought my first car at 18. Broke it, then built it. That chassis being the MK3 Supra, now second nature to me. Now moving on to better things because of my other half. I recently took her to a drifting event held close to home and she was all about it. Wanted to know how to get into and when we can do it. So she found the Miata we have now, that same night. I am using my motor from my Supra as its getting replaced anyway and what better way to use it, the chassis she found actually already fitted the same motor into the car, and has nearly everything needed to do said swap. So plans for now are as follows

Freshened up, semi built motor. Was in my car for the past 3 years 20 thousand miles on it roughly, all while beating the piss out of it. Includes sliding, high revving, and high speed highway runs (all in mexico). If it was going to break it would have a long time ago. So, when the motor is removed from the car, it will be resealed, top and bottom end. bearing clearances re-checked while i'm in there. All ARP's re-torqued top and bottom end. And ill even change the oil if the motor plays nicely. ;)

Just some old pictures of the motor after the rebuild, and of the car its coming out of.

Welcome to the site. What part of FL are you in? I saw that shell for sale forever for real cheap pretty close to me.

Yeah it has been for sale for a bit. I'm in Sarasota. Right off 75.

I had an 87, sweet GT car minus the typical 7M issues.

Are you planning to keep running the CT-26?

In for yet another miata with an odd ball swap that never runs again.

Hi there. I'm also new to Miatas, but I was very into Supras (had about 11 Mk2s and Mk3s over the years, with the highlight being a white 90T I eventually got up to 400 rwhp and then sold like an idiot). Looked just like your car. Definitely interested to see how your swap goes.

Seems like they are just not trying hard enough. I haven't driven my car (7M Supra) since December of 2013. Last night I tried starting it up, but a fuel line had split, so replaced that and the oil and tried again. Started right up without an issue. Didn't even smoke.

You see, it's people like you who I love to see proven wrong. Its a even better feeling when you see it, and have no other words to say. But thank you in advance for the positive words of encouragement. Cheers.

Yes but only because it was rebuilt when the motor was out. Its a 60-1, and has never seen more than 14lbs. Again, with my better half using the car to drift with, it should be more then enough get up and go for us.

No its cool and all. But too many people get stuck at. xyz doesnt fit, once the engine is in and the mounts are done and they giveup because they've spent months getting to that point and it just feels like nothing is going their way. Or they swear they wired it perfectly and tripled checked everything and for not apparent reason it doesnt work. Or they dont even get the engine in after months of working on it and realize what they're doing is stupid but they've already gone too far and now the stock engine wont go back in so they unload an aborted chassis for cheap.

Yeah i'm almost 100% sure that's what happened with the previous owner of this one. I haven't spoken to him to be sure. But it believe he got his in and running but then his motor blew up. And that was that. I'm sure mine will have its hiccup's. But i'm easy going, and there's always a fix for anything.

Hopefully it will be a blast. I was actually just in Knoxville this past weekend, Went to pigeon forge. Dolly-wood and what not. Great place for a little mini-vacay. Minus the tornado warning that came though lol.
