Newbie to Miata[ILLEGAL APOSTROPHE]s here!!

Just got a 1990 Miata in the toronto area. Its going to be my first! Started off as a little bit of a project, it came with a really bade paint job and a beat up interior, I ended up buying a full 93 m-edition off a guy here for 500 and using it for parts on my 1990, since my 1990 has the following upgrades:1.8 engine conversion
New T3-T4 Chorme Turbo
Adjustable boost regulator
4core aluminum rad
Front lip spoiler
Rear spoiler
Front diamond smoked indicators
4 smoked running side markers
Hid headlight conversion
Rear tail lights carbon fiber
Rising rate fuel pressure regulator
360cc gtx injectors
255lph walbro fuel pump
Sequential BOV
External Wastegate
Gtx intercooler
17" eagle chrome rims
BFG ZR rubber new
Tokico illuminai 5Way adjustable struts
Eibach springs
New wheel berrings
Racingbeat muffler
3"catylatic converter
Mazdaspeed catback
Mazdaspeed 6speed transmission
Mazdaspeed clutch
Mazdaspeed LSD diff
Mazdaspeed rear subframe
Mazdaspeed controll arms all
Mazdaspeed sway bars and links
Mazdaspeed wheel and ebrake handle
Mazdaspeed axles and driveshaft
Mazdaspeed big brakes
Cross drilled rotors
Stainless brakelines
Tan m-series leather
Genuine hard dog rollbar
Full gauge pkg including fuel
RX-8 shift knob

I switched the carpets, doors, and some of the interior accents from the M-edition, the rest I am parting out of the 93 since its extremely rusted, and the guy I got it from had it sitting outdoors for over 5 years.

I am going to be getting the paint stripped and the whole body repainted, i'm having a rough time deciding on color haha. Probably going to be black or white.

I am looking for some advice though, my miata has no ems wether megasquirt or aem, and I've read that its really good to have one on the turbo miatas. I have a greddy blue laying around that I've never used but I have none of the cables or sensors for it. I was wondering if its better to get the greddy e-manage blue installed ($250 aprox), or to sell it and get a megasquirt system installed. Any input would be great!

photos will be coming, hopefully soon rather than later.

Tip: Post relevant information, not every single mod down to "smoked side markers".

Sounds like a nice, well sorted car though :)

seraph 03-07-2011 12:30 PM

Needs Moar Pics^^^ Impressive list of work done though. All around here will tell you to ditch the EBlue and go with the Megasquirt. From what I've seen, this would be good advice. I'll be getting my own Megasquirt here in a month or so.

Welcome

sorry

sorry I just copy and pasted the list of mods that the original owner sent me.

I've never heard of Chorme, how long have they been around?
Adjustable boost regulator
4core aluminum rad
Front lip spoiler
Rear spoiler
Front diamond smoked indicators
4 smoked running side markers
Hid headlight conversion
What method are you using to prevent blinding oncoming traffic? Inquiring minds need to know.
Rear tail lights carbon fiber
Why did you put carbon fiber over your taillights? Is it real carbon fiber? Why didn't you save your carbon fiber for something more useful? How much weight did you add by taking out the plastic and installing carbon fiber?
Rising rate fuel pressure regulator
I stick to band-aid brand 'cause band-aid sticks on me!
360cc gtx injectors
255lph walbro fuel pump
Sequential BOV
Really? What a waste of perfectly good energy...
External Wastegate
Gtx intercooler
17" eagle chrome rims
HOLY FUCK DUDE, YOU DIDN'T TELL US YOU WERE ROLLIN' A DONK!!!
BFG ZR rubber new
Tokico illuminai 5Way adjustable struts
I forget - what year did mazda put struts in again?
Eibach springs
New wheel berrings
Is this a fish? Is it related to a herring?
Racingbeat muffler
3"catylatic converter
Mazdaspeed catback
Why the restriction?
Mazdaspeed 6speed transmission
Mazdaspeed clutch
Mazdaspeed LSD diff
Mazdaspeed rear subframe
Mazdaspeed controll arms all
Mazdaspeed sway bars and links
*what the hell is up with this shit?*

Mazdaspeed wheel and ebrake handle
Mazdaspeed axles and driveshaft
Mazdaspeed big brakes
Cross drilled rotors
Why?
Stainless brakelines
Tan m-series leather
Genuine hard dog rollbar
Full gauge pkg including fuel
RX-8 shift knob

Don't apologize. This is appropriate

*Edit* Y8S beat me to the post lol

yums88 03-07-2011 04:03 PM

Any advice/ recommendations of anything I should do to it, or add to it? I know aesthetically theres lots of mods, but im more interested in necessities.

hornetball 03-07-2011 04:21 PM

Change the oil.

And get some decent wheels and tires (low weight) ASAP.

samnavy 03-07-2011 08:23 PM

Need some pics... nothing else anybody can tell you will be useful without them. Need specifics on the "hard" hardware... what brand turbo/manifold/dp? What brand fuel pressure regulator? What is the timing set to?

Injectors that big on the stock ECU is a recipe for running shit rich out of boost... and need to know how much fuel pressure running in boost... just some basics about the tune. Is it equipped with a wideband? The fuel gauge you've got might be a narrowband... need to verify an actual wideband and tell us what you're seeing in and out of boost.

It looks like some decent money was spent, so hopefully the PO knew a bit about what he was doing... but my advice in order is:

Turn down the boost low: remove the boost controller entirely and loosen the wastegate actuator a bit... no telling what kind of damage might be being done until you get an actual wideband on it.

Check your base timing.

Sell your 17" boat anchor heavy-as-shit performance robbing chrome piece of shit wheels. Look in the classifieds here and buy some Konig Heliums or the like... cheap and light and will bring the suspension alive compared to what you're running.

Remove HID's and install these:

Oh yah... and PICS!

TurboTim 03-07-2011 08:31 PM

I have a stainless steel screw inside my side mirror. That's all I have to say about that.

yums88 03-08-2011 12:10 PM

Ok so like I said I'm new to miata's and I am also new to tuning car. I dont know much about turbos or boost, but thats what you guys are here for right :). The PO told me its running at about 6psi right now, but has potential for a lot more. He also told me it is running rich, and he was planning to put a megasquirt on it.

samnavy- I do not know how to check the wideband, but im sure a simple google will tell me. As well as base timing.

Turbotim- I dont get it...

Thats what the car looks like now, I have a viper body kit I will be putting on it, and the whole car is going to be painted g-d willing by the end of this month (still deciding on color).

turotufas 03-08-2011 12:36 PM

thread title makes sense now. christ...

saedrin 03-08-2011 12:37 PM

Good god. Stop right there. Sell that body kit immediately, get rid of the 17" boat anchors, remove all of the ricer crap that is ruining what could potentially be a decent car.

Pen2_the_penguin 03-08-2011 01:54 PM

Holy hell. What did you DO to it?!

I am scared to see whats under that monstrosity of header wrap...

Sell everything (or throw away most) and start the F**k over my friend.

edit: Also, what is up with the cam cover?! Did you try and polish it, or just took a grinder to it for shits and giggles?

You dont CHECK wideband, you ether have it, or you don't. I will go with no haz from your pics.

yums88 03-08-2011 02:04 PM

Like I said I havent done anything to the car yet mechanically. Everything you see under the hood was done by the PO. The wheels I will try and sell, in order to get something much lighter, I used to have 5zigen zr+ on my old car too bad they wont fit. And the body kit is my decision to make it diff from all the other miatas on the road.

Pen2_the_penguin 03-08-2011 02:09 PM

You cant be moar different than me, noob.

saedrin 03-08-2011 02:10 PM

Add underglow and a huge $50 autozone wing to the hood too. Just to be different.

Dont forget Z3 chrome stick-on vents... also at your local autozone... GET IN THE ZONE

sixshooter 03-08-2011 02:54 PM

Welcome, new guy. Don't mind the boys. They like to have their fun.

You have a few useful pieces there and with some time studying you can figure out what should stay and what should go. We can not be held responsible for what the previous owners did to our cars either.

If you run into trouble, use the search button and read the FAQ. After that, post a question about it. If that doesn't yield any help, PM me and I will try to assist.

Good luck.

EDIT: Put your location in so it shows up under your screen name. Somebody helpful might be local to you.

fooger03 03-08-2011 03:54 PM

um.....radiator cap?

chriscar 03-08-2011 05:06 PM

^I was wondering the same thing.

does the header wrap quiet down all the exhaust leaks? or at least muffle them a little?

Yes thats the only reason all that header wrap is on there.

Ok so its a little rough but has potential. Definitely need some real engine management though. And for gods sake buy a black can of spray paint for that front lip.

yums88 03-09-2011 04:21 PM

Thanks for the help, from those of you being helpful :). The radiator is weird, the cap is on a hose coming form the bottom, its as if its in upside down. I haven't looked far enough yet so figure out what its all about. The heat wrap is for noise and heat reduction, how much of that it actually does, we will just have to see. What I did on the car so far was: remove and replace the black worn carpet with a nice tan one out of an m-edition, before doing that I laid a layer of adhesive polyurethane(dynamat) on the whole floor of the car, behind the sets, around the roll bar, and inside the trunk. I also replaced the seats with m-edition ones, put on new doors with power windows, replaced the hood, and a few other minor touch ups. I ended up getting a 93' m-edition off a guy here locally who had it sitting in a field(canadian weather) for over 5 years. I am now parting out that miata since it has a coolant leak, seized brakes, and a lot of rust. If all goes as planned by mid april I will have my miata on the road so I can start inspecting mechanical issues(if it has any) for now until the snow melts i'll be fixing up the cosmetics, putting the interior back in and then sending it off to paint.

mazstro 03-09-2011 09:32 PM

where in canada? i am in bc and were still under 20' of snow
cant even see my house from the street

yums88 03-09-2011 09:36 PM

Toronto, here they keep teasing us. Snow, then rain, then sunshine, then snow again.

jmack 03-09-2011 10:59 PM

I have a set of 14x6 BBS mesh wheels and center caps w/ pretty fresh Azenis. You really should buy them and ditch the boat anchors. I will even deliver to your door!

Less than 30 pounds tire and wheel, as opposed to the 50+ you are probably running now.

samnavy 03-09-2011 11:03 PM

yums, at 6psi, you're probably all right as long as the PO adjusted the AFPR properly when installed. It's an older BEGi 2025 unit, a quality piece that has provided enough fuel in the correct amount for many thousands of boosted Miatas and other vehicles. With 360cc injectors and a Walbro 255, you could certainly provide enough fuel for 11-12psi, even on a T3/T4. You'll need a Bipes and an O2 clamp to complete the "bandaid" package in order to be complete enough to run that much boost. I'd also highly recommend a new fuel filter.

I'm kind of interested in knowing where your MAF is? I'm pretty sure the 94-97 cars don't do very well at all with blow-through... and I don't see it between the turbo and filter. Where is it?

I'd kinda like to see the manifold and downpipe fab... looks pretty cool... seen a few like that, but yours looks like a one-off done fairly well. I'm not an expert on header wrap, but I'm pretty sure you're not doing yourself any favors by having it on there... especially the way it's installed. Somebody else can chime in, but I'd recommend removing it. You'd be better off insulating the other hoses in the area from the heat rather than trying to keep the heat in the metal.

I'd like to see a pic or two of the intercooler and the rest of the interior... and did you examine your "wideband" and determine if it's wide or narrow?

Golferluke 03-10-2011 10:22 PM

lol so with your 11th post you start a part out thread?

Maybe he's smarter then everyone's giving him credit for. Sell the junk, start out fresh.

yums88 03-11-2011 12:07 AM

Actually what happened was I got my turbo miata which I posted about here, and then 3 weeks later I bought the m-edition for parts. I didnt end up needing most of the 1993, hence the part out/ whole car for sale.

Golferluke 03-11-2011 02:27 AM

Gotcha, just wondered why you had a picture up of the turbo car
