Newbie needs advice

Hello everyone-I'm not only new here-but I'm considering purchasing a 2009 PRHT Grand Touring Miata. And if I do-these are some considerations I'm thinking of.

A V-8 LSx kit-which makes it a booger to insure. I cannot seem to find anyone who'll fully insure a V-8 Miata.

Ok-don't everyone jump on me at once-but I want to know the REAL pro's and con's of Turbocharging vs a supercharger. I HATE the idea of any turbo lag at all-there's nothing worse than stepping on it-and....nothing. Please help me with any/all suggestions as I'm not only new to Miata's, but to engine up-grades and performance in general. I'd like to see 275-300Hp, with a comparable torque curve. Also-has anyone found out anything on a 20 yr anniversary model/limited edition yet? Thanks so much.

To sum up NC's... too heavy, too much technology, too much money, too big, not enough power, fat ass, cramped interior, aftermarket support is WAY too expensive.

There isn't a turbo or supercharger kit yet for them, so anything else discussed in this thread is academic.

The turbocharging vs. supercharging discussion is one of the most common in the performance aftermarket. You don't need this forum to fill you in. Just go to google and type it in.

Here, I'll help.

Sam, the post is so ludicrous I figured it can't possibly be serious. A guy wants to spend $30k on a ’09 car, rip out a brand new motor and spend another $15k or so installing another, but doesn’t know there’s no kit for that and doesn’t know how to search for info on comparisons between superchargers and turbochargers. Smells like troll all over. Of course I could be overestimating the OP. You've seen more noobtards than I have, and maybe this is just another one, but if so and in the short time I’ve been here I'm dumbfounded at the number and stupidity of them. It's like a bad zombie movie. Is there no limit?

ohnonothimagain 09-08-2008 07:21 PM

WOW-what kind of noob-tard am I?

Gee-I ask a couple of questions, and I'm a noob-tard? I guess I'm not good enough for your fancy forum-I happen to like the Miata-thought I might buy a new one. The compassion and the kindness in forums like these and the mean replies make me wonder if ANY of you were ever new to these kind of discussions. AND- I asked what I thought was a decent set of questions from someone who is obviously not as smart and with it as you are Thucydides.....I wasn't born yesterday folks-and what I asked was something I thought would get me some responses, not hate and assuming I'm a complete idiot. To the moderator-remember when you knew little about cars and what would work and what wouldn't ? I'm really disappointed in the responses-and NO, I'm not a stupid newbie-just one who doesn't know as much as you all. That's WHY I turned to people who I thought were adults.

Don't get all butt-hurt on us that's a sure-fire way to get the good ole ban stick waved at you. If you want a share of the knowledge this forum has to offer all you have to do is follow some simple rules. Make a nice introduction post, as educated questions after SEARCHING and SEARCHING some more when you don't find your answer the first time. Also you're not going to get much NC help/advice here because quite frankly we don't give a shit about the new generation of "MX-5's," if you're dead-set on an NC then go hang out at miata.net for the next few years until there is a decent aftermarket for them. Otherwise get yourself a nice NA or NB, STFU, search, and ask educated questions.

Don't take things too personally. Most people who bash the NC have never driven one.
I have driven them, and they are very easy to make a lot of fun--really a stock NC with some RX8 sways is a pretty fun car. It just needs a tad more power. I run through the mountains with a group including a couple of NC's and I've been suprised at how hard and fast they carve it up against my NA. They just don't have near the straight line acceleration I do.

At work, we're building an 06LE with an RX8 Renesis 6 port. We're 90%+ done with it. It also has the RX8 6 speed and brakes. We'll add some coil overs and exhaust, and with the high strung engine it will be a blast.

If you have a good driving record, agreed upon value or collector's insurance on a MX-V8 will be a fairly easy hurdle to jump. You'll probably need to do something like get an appraisal and submit pics/receipts from the build. There are at least a couple hundred V8 powered miatas in the country, the vast majority of which are insured street cars.

I have to ask then, have you ever driven a turbo car? It's not that bad at all. Plus, with the power level you want, I don't know about the NC but supercharged NAs and NBs generally struggle to top what, 210 RWHP? My stupid little Greddy puts down more than that, and there's almost no lag.

The Jekyll and Hyde power delivery is the fun part :eek4:

All new guys who ask questions a five year old could answer by searching and who can't be bothered to read the procedures on how to post on this forum are treated the same way. Actually, it's become much gentler around here now that Hustler's on vacation; trust me, you've been treated with kid gloves.

I suggest you start over by posting who you are, where you live, what you drive, and by reading for a few days.

Now where did I park that Deathmobile?

You're in big trouble ohnonothimagian, if you're not as least as smart as I am. Sheeattt; Joe Perez called me an idiot as recently as the day before yesterday.
