Newish owner in the DFW area

A friend of mine bought a '93 Miata last year, and I was instantly hooked after he let me drive it. I scoured craigslist for a few months until last November, when I found a 2000 NB with less than 130k on the odometer. It was sitting on some eBay garbage coilovers and the steering pump was really unhappy with the way the front was stanced. I decided to put her back on her stock springs but swap in some Koni yellows at the same time. Aside from new tires and an alignment, the only other mods are a Miata Roadster short shifter and an amplified stubby antenna. Currently she's my daily driver, and I've put over 6,000 miles on her since bringing her home.

I've always wanted a car that had some kind of forced induction. I've owned several 5.0 Mustangs over the years, and I really love the way positive displacement superchargers sound. I thought that would be the direction that I would go with this car, but after much lurking here and other places, it seems that a GT2554R or something similar is what will eventually wind up under the hood. I've been kicking myself for not getting an order in with mkturbo before the prices went up. I'm hoping I can have a Megasquirt and wideband installed and operational by June or July and start piecing together the rest of the kit after that.

Anyway, I included a pic of the car. It was taken right after finishing the suspension work I mentioned earlier. It took a few miles, but she's settled into the springs and isn't quite as jacked up as the picture makes it seem. You can kind of see my 2012 5.0 in the background... sadly, she doesn't get driven much any more. The Miata is just too much fun!

Welcome to the forum. You got a PM, I might be in Dallas on Saturday.

Well, it's been a while since I last posted, but things are progressing. I tackled the clutch upgrade a few months ago, and I've sorted out all the other small issues. Finally did a compression check a few days ago, and according to my gauge she has between 200 and 205 psi across all four cylinders. So that meant it was time to start looking at kits again. Got lucky and found the sale at mkturbo, and I've already got his complete kit on order. The electronics should be arriving shortly, and I'm a little nervous about getting MegaSquirt running. I've watched a bunch of videos including the ones sticky-ed in the tuning section. The learning curve seems a little steep, but I think I can figure it out. Hoping to have her running on MegaSquirt and the new injectors by the end of the month, then install the rest of the kit in January.

Sounds like a good plan. When your ready for your final tune on dyno, I recommend PRT Performance; Steve did my Hydra tune and mentioned most Miata's he sees are megasquirt. I'm also in Dallas.

If you don’t mind me asking, what did PRT charge for the dyno tune?

I believe $600; but that's not going to be helpful for you since I was getting a E85 map tuned which runs off of my existing 93 tune. Less work is involved compared to taking a base tune to a fully running tune. He can give you a quote if you call. Responds well on facebook messenger as well.

Dyno time on a load bearing dyno tends to run $125-$175 an hour depending on tuner and dyno costs.

Well, I thought it fitting to add one more post here before starting my own build thread. My NB is boosted and running like a top! There's still a ton of cosmetic work to be done, but for now the performance side of things is sorted. I'm planning to get some lowering springs later this summer, as well as start fixing all the dents and crappy clear coat. I'm thinking I'll vinyl wrap it once the weather gets nicer. Anyway, here's a shot of the installed kit. I just thought this car was fun before, it's soooooo much better with 10 pounds of boost.

Congrats. One of us in the DFW area should plan some periodic meet-ups or cruises.

Maybe there already is and nobody likes me.......

I’d be down for a meetup if we could get one together. I’m going to have to work on my tune-up if I’m going to brave DFW traffic....my idle is still kinda shit.
