noob!!!

Hi guys! Im a noob and i know it.:noob:.. so here are my basics...

Main uses for the forum would be to better understand my vehicle, shave off a few seconds in my lap times autox and track, and basically to leave all the corvettes in the dust:)

i have a 1990 miata 1.6 with a t3/t4 turbo@16psi. my dyno with my link ran 195@ rear wheels and apprx. 250 at the crank. I would really like to see over 200hp at the rear wheels. I have small mods including turbo, link ecu, kyb struts, upgraded racing sways, stiffer springs, i only have a 2" exhaust, and i have a lightweight flywheel(8lbs) and a stage 3 clutch.. I have some other odds and ends also... any advise on getting a little more performance?

turbobluemiata 03-21-2008 01:03 AM

go for the exhaust upgrade my fav so far just my .02

mazda/nissan 03-21-2008 01:06 AM

thats all the hp you got? maybe the exhaust will make some of it up :dunno:

highroller101 03-21-2008 01:15 AM

when i run at the track i remove the Cat and insert my 3"test pipe but other then that, thats it... what do you recomend for an exhaust? i have heard there is alot to pick up in a down pipe...

highroller101 03-21-2008 01:16 AM

im pretty sure the size of my turbo is a .49... does that make sense?

mazda/nissan 03-21-2008 01:18 AM

well what size is your downpipe? Mine is 2.5 and i'm gonna attach it to about a 1ft. long of 2.5 A good 3" exhaust never heart anything though :bigtu:

highroller101 03-21-2008 01:19 AM

i also have a problem overheating on the track.... i bought a bigger radiator but it still overheats like mad

mazda/nissan 03-21-2008 01:20 AM

do you have your undertray in? i've heard that helps on the track. If the radiator doesn't do it then get urself one of them fancy air extracting hoods, or make ur own

highroller101 03-21-2008 01:22 AM

dont really know... it has an egg shape to mount to the turbo for the wastegate and then it goes into a normal size... so im not sure.. id like to have something that sounds half way decent too

highroller101 03-21-2008 01:22 AM

what is an undertray?

Trent 03-21-2008 01:28 AM

it's that annoying plastic panel that runs under the front of the car from the radiator to about the steering rack.

If you're asking what it is, you probably don't have it anymore. lol.

It is definitely good to have, but makes it more of a pain to get to some stuff, so it often gets ripped out. Neither of my miatas ever had it when i got them.

i have some ducting that i made to help with cooling, i also paralleled my fans and am interested in this coolant re-route i have seen on the site

From what I've gathered about turbo miatas on the track is that they will overheat even with almost every cooling mod, unless it's a proper re-route. It's the most effective solution. Also, proper extractor hoods help too.

highroller101 03-21-2008 01:56 AM

any advice on extractor hoods? i read the 50 dollar mini cooper scoop, and pauls re-route.

soulcarving 03-21-2008 01:56 AM

+1 on the bigger exhaust.

What manifold and downpipe are you running with your T3/T4?

highroller101 03-21-2008 01:58 AM

to be honest, i didnt put the turbo or manifold in, i have had to fix it and fly cut the manifold many times... im in need in a new one pretty soon because it has already closed the gaps to allow for shrinkage

highroller101 03-21-2008 02:00 AM

as for the down pipe, im assuming whatever came with the kit, i can assure you nothing special.

highroller101 03-21-2008 02:05 AM

its a garett t3/t4

You might want to check out the Autokonexion vented FRP hood w/ or w/o gills.

For coolant re-route, I'm thinking of going with gearhead's garage (it will be sold on 949racing site).

link?

i ws thinking about diy to be honest... it doesnt seem hard
