Noob bought a supercharged miata!
 

Hey guys,
I've been lurking here for a long time and have a had a few miatas, but none have been boosted until now. (Other than the turbo project which I never have finished) I know I'm supposed to get a na miata and megasquirt and learn to tune before adding boost, but hear me out.

I was looking for a stock miata for a great starting project, and ran across this nice but abused looking miata. He was local to me in Phoenix and had a 60k mile 1999 miata. Front bumper was ugly, but looked nice.

The add had little info so went to look at the car. Well turns out this thing is NICE under the dust from sitting and has a MP62 hotside supercharger on it. Well the oil was dirty, and it ran like crap, but the compression was good and everything seemed to function as it should so I bought the car for 3K!!


Seemed like a good deal to me, with the car only being at 60k miles and near perfect minus the front bumper. So here are the specs:

Stock fuel system
Greddy e-manage blue (ancient!)
Mp62 hotside with no intercooler and stock pullies.
Lowering springs
Sparco sprint seats with sparco harnesses
Unknown short shifter
Flying miata dual exit exhaust and header

Well I found that the poor running was caused by a bad spark plug. Did all the maintainence including timing belt, water pump, all belts, all fluids, spark plugs, plug wires. Now it runs and drives great.

Now my question has to do with two things. First is the greddy e-manage piggy back. I know that megasquirt is the way to go and I plan on getting one, but is it safe to run the greddy in the mean time? I have a wideband on it and the a/f values are between 14-15 at idle and 11.5-12.5 through the whole power band when at wot. Also runs great with no misses or backfires.

Second is with the supercharger. Is the mp62 safe to run without an intercooler? I will be getting one soon to install but again just want to make sure I'm not damaging anything.

Budget for a new radiator. The plastic gets extra brittle when they start to discolor. Yours isn't awful, but it's showing it's age.
