Noob from chi-town

Well finally I have made my way to the turbo world and I currently hold a handful of turbo parts in a box in my garage that I do plan to make something work for my red 91. I check this site riligiously looking for parts and pieces to build a beast (my disgruntled girlfriend can vouch for that). I recently sold my jrsc off my car because it was no longer enough power, so begins my new found drug, "turbo". Just like pringles "once you pop you can't stop". But I have to say to everyone who contributes to this forum, you are a life saver and an Einstein of the miata world. Yes, I know I sound like a cheese ball noob :noob: but I believe in giving credit where credit is due. So to everyone who loves their miata more than their right hand :jerkit:, this is Tony the tiger saying hello and standing by for the assault which is sure to ensue.

Cool intro brah.
No, see I can actually say that.

How old are you? 16?

Chiburbian 12-11-2010 04:53 AM

Check out clubroadster.net and come out next time they do a meet up.

Good job having your location listed, but I think what you need to start working on religiously is your spelling...

So, tell us what you have in that box?

turotufas 12-11-2010 04:56 AM

Hey, Tony! :wavey:

Tony the Tiger 12-12-2010 12:10 AM

Hey what's up everybody! And yes I'm 16 but I'll be 16 and a half in two weeks. As for what's in the box is a greddy setup I picked up for lordrigamus about 3 months ago, but I am considering selling it and starting with something not greddy. I know many guys have no problems with this kit but for the few problems I have seen are enough to push me away.

pusha 12-12-2010 03:33 AM

How do you feel about having your FI on the exhaust side of the car?

Chiburbian 12-12-2010 04:51 AM

I don't want to make this thread about you - but as this IS your intro thread I have a few questions. How did you manage to get a degree in electrical engineering at only 16? I am very impressed.

At 16, how is it that you have so much driving experience that you already tired of the supercharger? Though, I am not saying you can't be experienced... I plan on teaching my kids to drive on private property before they are legally able to drive on highways, I am just impressed that your parents were so forward thinking.

What supercharger were you running? Did you look into going megasquirt (if you haven't already) and tuning that first? I bet you that you have found a good bit of power to wring out of that supercharger before you tore it out. I recommend putting in MS now if you havent already. If nothing else it will give you experience in tuning the car so you don't are less likely to blow it up.

Tony the Tiger 12-12-2010 01:32 PM

Ha! I'm not 16 I was pinging back to pusha's comment. I'm 28 and worked very hard for my degree. But yeah I ran a jrsc for about 2 years before I came across the world of turbo charging and seen that the sky is the limt, which is inversely dependent on the depth of your wallet. But I'm looking at getting a diypnp for my setup. But nice to meet you chiburbian.

Chiburbian 12-12-2010 08:17 PM

There ya go. I knew I was being confused by something. Turns out it was sarcasm!

It was just a pet peeve of mine... I have tons of guys I know that post on myspace or facebook that they make 100k a year and drive a BMW when they make $9k, live at thier mammas, and drive a buick. (not that there is anything wrong with any of those conditions IMO).

I wish they would just be real. There is no shame in starting from the bottom and working their way up.

Good luck with your build. I would be interested in following it. Post a build thread once you start turning bolts.

From your fellow noob..hello. I feel you on the disgruntled GF thing ("You'd rather be looking on that fucking car website than laying down with me and going to sleep like a normal person" thats her ripping into me, haha. I reply "of course I'm not normal I think miatas are cool"..even funnier and she just gets even more pissed. I too am currently putting a turbo setup together and I'm sure stoked about it. Lots of info here, so find that search button and start losing sleep.

Tony the Tiger 12-13-2010 09:02 PM

Well glad to see I'm not the only one in this boat. I constantly get crap for spending money on my miata. She recently found out what I have spent on my car in the past year and her response was" I could have a engagement ring for that!" so now during my turbo build I'm walking on egg shells. I have to buy pieces little by little. It sucks but that's life. But glad to meet ya 99bayareamx5 hope your build is going better than mine and good luck with the GF.

And when she is sitting watching her "dancing with the stars" tv show or whatever, you can say "In the time you spent watching that you could have given me a BJ!"

Kidding of course. When things fell apart with my most recent GF I took the money I had saved up for a ring and spent it on an AR-15 :)

ryanmx5 12-14-2010 01:24 AM

Hi Tony the tiger! Glad to see more locals. I'm not far from you, just the other side of Joliet.

Yea I feel ya. I left my email up to a 1200+ dollar order from FM and lets says she wasnt too excited, started grumbpling about some kind of ring, diamond or a large sum of money to get something like that..lol. She does alot for me but sometimes I wish she'd get off the car thing. I have one hobby and thats my car. And yea it might be expensive but she's well taken care of too.

Sean 12-14-2010 10:54 AM

The GF car thing will never go away you just have to find a way to deal with it without getting into each others faces about it. My GF is the same way even after 7 years of doing the same car thing she is always saying I can't believe you spent all day on that car and couldn't spend 1 hr with me. When really I just got home when she got off work lol but she is to tired to stay up. Good luck with your build I would love to see it come together for you. Also if the turbo isn't enough for you, you can always put a 2j in it:)

Splitime 12-14-2010 11:09 AM

Honestly... gf/wife trumps car stuff. You need to find a balance that works for everyone. That's the key to a fun future. My wife doesn't participate in my addiction... but she also respects that I need a hobby/outlet.

Oh and CR.net = ricer/crapfest. Just live here... or find your way onto the Shane started Facebook group for the Chicago miata folks.

Chiburbian 12-14-2010 05:19 PM

Well, I didn't mean to actually "hang out" on CR.net. I meant more just to keep up to date on whats happening in Chicago. I will have to check out that FB group...

Tony the Tiger 12-14-2010 07:52 PM

I will never win. I bought parts off a guy this summer and found out when talking to him he was in the middle of a divorce which he said was partially caused by his miata. GF don't understand the miata sickness. But hell I don't understand buying more clothes than my closet can handle or watching American idol but I don't say shit I just keep my head under the hood. Splitime still using those rota type rims I sold u awhile back. What's up Sean and ryanmx5

saedrin 12-24-2010 03:44 AM
