Noob intro & current progress (56K warning)

Hello all,

I've been a lurking member for a while.
I never did an intro, so I figured it was about time...

Bought a 93 Black/Tan 5speed a while back and have since done;
(In this order)

Greddy Turbo Kit
Tein Flex
2.5 Tony DP
2.5 cat-back
4.10 Torsen Swap
Custom 2.5 "over the top" IC using ebay IC and piping
MSPNP w/o AFM & LC-1 wideband(this is my current project)

It has been sitting in my garage for over a year now. Working on it when I have spare time. I'm not really in a huge rush to finish it. Especially since winter is around the corner. That and my bank account hates me.

This is my first experience doing anything more to a car than maybe adjusting valve lash on my taurus SHO. Hence I will most likely have alot of stupid NOOBish questions (that is if I can't find my own answer using that handy search function).

The IC was tough on the fitment side for me since I did it all by scratch & ideas from others on this site. But that felt like nothing compared to trying to figure out Megasquirt.

However, I'm confident I can learn alot from many people on this place, so it's my honor to be here.

I know it's dirty, but that's what you get when you let it sit for over a year...

:)

Congrats on going MS.

why didn't you flip the IC upside down to shorten the charge piping? Was the hood modified to make that routing fit?

What's with the plastic over the filter? Is that because it was sitting?

SHOthang 10-14-2008 12:42 AM

The IC outputs were wider than the holes i had cut in the rad. support, so the only thing I could come up with was set it this way & make an 'S-tube'.

The plastic on the filter is the bag that it came in. I just put it around the filter to keep it kinda clean. :)

As far as the hood, I had to cut quite a bit in the front support beam. It is still a very close fit, but it works. Haven't taken it up to speed with the hood mods, so I'm hoping I didn't ruin the structural integrity too much. Was thinking hood pins might solve that if that problem arises.

Another concern is my radiator support. Hoping I didn't cut too much off that either.

I'll post some more pics in a bit.

ahh, in the pics it looked like the pipes came down parallel to each other so i was curious why not flip it.

I'm impressed!
Welcome to the dark side. With your attitude (and knowing to search :) ), you'll last longer than a lot of noobs.

Some More Pictures;

My 'S-tube' is pretty ghetto, but I'm not exactly a pro welder (did it twice in highschool) & I wanted to make it able to tweak slightly as i need.

I'd flip your clamps around to try to minimize the contact they can make with your a/c condenser. Last thing you need is a hole from rubbing.

holy clamps batman....id be paranoid to have that many couplers/clamps, itd be pita if they start popping off

slutz4 10-14-2008 08:30 AM

looks nice, but I would eliminate a few couplers for sure

It's all the same... My last setup consisted of 10 couplers IIRC. Never failed.

I did split a coupler once but that was my fault from improper lining up my compressor housing and letting it rub directly on a sharp edge.

My one complaint is being able to see the blue couplers through the mouth...I don't like that it "blocks" flow and how out-of-place they look.

Thanks for the constructive criticism everybody.

As far as eliminating clamps, I would have to do some welding. It is something I'd like to do in the future, but this will suffice for now.

I do agree with Braineack and dislike the way it looks from the front. I've been trying to think of a way to fix that without drastically changing the current setup.

And with the clamp rubbing issue, the pictures make it look close to the radiator(condenser was removed), but it's got plenty of clearance.
