Volvo guy searching for the right Miata
Hi.
I joined this forum in search of Miata/Feline info . I'm in the process of searching my surrounding area (Dayton/Cincinnati Ohio) for a Miata. I thought I'd join up here and read/lurk all I can.
I'm moving away from the Volvo world, but with that I'm bringing Megasquirt + turbocharging experience. I'm looking forward to the wealth of aftermarket support Miatas have.
Here's my Volvo wagon. (May it rest in peace)
Holset HE341 @ 22psi, 1000cc injectors, e85, full 3" exhaust, MS2 3.57, harness made from scratch (as you can see from the old first run picture below) ect, ect.

Hoping to find a Miata soon, and maybe some local people that I can wrench with while I'm at it.

Welcome, what are you looking for specifically NA, NB. Stock, or race ready? also ohio has a miata owners facebook group, we do some meets and track days, and some drives. https://www.facebook.com/groups/478759678813248/

I'm looking for one that's been mildly modified to save me some time on some basic stuff. (Wheels, coilovers, pre-stickerbombed rearwindshield[jk])
Fun fact: The dude that donated his Volvo 244 to Breaking Bad is on our Volvo forums. The Volvo community is pretty small, but tight.

coilovers, header, 120k miles 5k asking price. 1995 Mazda Miata
94, ive driven this car when it was for sale about a year ago, it was a great car but needed work. looks like the new owner did alot of it already.

They do, but this was a close to 300k mile unopened, untouched, stock NA high compression motor. It was no surprise when it blew. (But took all sorts of punishment before that)
And I'm on CL daily looking of the right one. It's tough thinking about spending $5,000 on a car when I'm used to picking up Volvos for between $400-800.

Redturbomiata: Yeah, I figured. Any in that $1000 range are normally beat. I end up pouring over 5k into the Volvos when it's all said and done, just not used to the higher entry price point.

Volvo's are The Shizz.. I'd kill for a nice 122 or P1800. Someday....
I'll give you the same advice that I give anyone looking for a Miata. Having grown up in NJ I became accustomed to rust. It's just a reality, cars rust, right?
When I moved to Florida I found out that I was wrong, or at least limited in my knowledge of the world outside salted roads. Aside from people who live beachside, the cars down here are generally immaculately clean. The sun is hard on tops, but tops are cheap and easy. Plus down here in the sunny south, Miatas are fairly popular since you can really enjoy the car year round. Florida is made for convertibles, and there are a bunch around.
I would really suggest you expand your search to the south and southwest. Heck, I'll bet that most of the regulars here would be happy to check out any car that may happen to be in their area for you. I know I would.

I've got people in Florida, so that's actually a really great idea. The search expands. Craigslist has me all tempted to put a GM 5.3 in my DD Volvo, but my desire for a Miata burns on.

BUMP!
Moved from OH to VA, and picked up a Miata my first week here. Yeah, took me that long.
1997 Miata. 1.8l. High miles, but runs and handles pretty well. A/C Blows super cold. 100% stock except for a Racing Beat CAI ($230~ what a waste of money) and some BMW bottlecap wheels. I got it pretty inexpensively.
All I've done so far is replace the ripped leather shift boot and the rubber isolation boot to stop the hot air from flowing into the cabin.
Here are some pictures:
