Noob from Scotland

Hello everyone,

My name is Craig (Crag to mates) i am 24 years old and i'm from a town called Greenock in "Sunny" Scotland , I have owned a 1990 Eunos Roadster for around 18 months, I've been floating on here for a while now and since i'm at the start of my turbo conversion i thought id drop an intro in and get the roasting out of the way ;-)

Current mods to my car consist of a 2.25 inch Cat-back system from Moss Europe with a 'Fleabay' 4-2-1 manifold (De-cat as 1990 :-) , Tein coil-overs with Toyo Proxes T1-r tyres and a 5 race roll bar with Cobra Monaco Seats and Sabelt harnesses, Mishimoto Radiator and a basic intake . Just last weekend i installed MS2PNP with the IAT kit and initial impressions are good. I am piecing together a kit bit by bit (mostly complete) where-in i have a mild steel turbo manifold with Stainless steel downpipe to marry up with a TD04. I've also got a CXRacing intercooler and a paddle clutch for when the turbo gets bolted on (preferably before hand for the clutch). The plan from this point is to learn MS Tuner Studio and expand on the basic knowledge i have of tuning while running N/A so i have a good starting point for FI. I won't be rushing into anything as the car is my daily driver so i need to keep reliability up and downtime to a minimum.

The ultimate goal for my car *Cliche* is fun , I plan on doing a little drifting in it now and then (Driftland is only an hour or so away :-) but on the whole the car will just be a fun daily driver that can stomp out bigger cars when needed and to give me something to do really (towns not very lively).

Thanks to anyone who read til the end

Cheers for all the knowledge i have gained thus far from this site and i'm looking forward to improving this and hopefully i can give back to the community....eventually :-S

Welcome to the forum. I've not been further north than Edinburgh yet.

The 1.6 cars have a very weak rear differential that often fails at stock power levels. Don't drift it or hard launch until upgrading.

It seems you have a good understanding of the best upgrade paths so far.

Let me know if you need anything.

The TD04 is a great match for the 1.6 engine.

Hi Sixshooter, Cheers for the reply lets me know i haven't wasted my money so far, Greenock is about level with Edinburgh but on the West Coast.

As for the Diff, I've got one of the VLSD's , In all honesty i don't know much about them but a Torsen from a 1.8 is on the list but I haven't been able to find one for a good price with the relevant drive shafts. If the VLSD breaks though then that will force my hand to upgrade it so won't be all bad.

Appreciate the support offer buddy - I'm hoping i don't need to take you up on it

If you run out of sunshine, we've got a surplus.

The thing with the VSLD's is that they're unreliable and unpredictable re breaking. They're better than the open 1.6, but I think I'd prefer an open 1.8 relative to the 1.6 VSLD. You can always start there and swap out the pumpkin to the torsen as and when you find a good deal.

Sixshooter's awesome btw.

Awww, staaahhhpp!

Lol.

Crag 12-16-2016 04:38 AM

Yeah they sure are unpredictable, this is the 2nd one the car has had in my ownership , Broke on me at about 15 mph driving to a friends one day under no considerable load , Luckily right outside the garage where i pass over the stuff i cant do myself and he just happened to have one laying around from one of his old 5's so that was a result.

Appreciate the warm welcome gents and the words of wisdom, highlights some more potential options i was not aware of
