Not Exactly a Miata...
Hi guys, I'm a factory turbo B6 owner. With All wheel drive. And a hatchback.
I have a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX, working on Megasquirting it. I've ditch all the stock EFI and am going with a 1.6L CAS, coilpack, using the MSnSE I V3 and the miata ignitor mod. I'm a poster on Something Awful, my GTX project thread is here If you have any questions about GTXs I can try to answer them. I figured a site with a Great miata with megaquirt section would work for my mostly Miata-derived MS setup. Cheers! http://daihatsu-fans.org/hosted/imgh...-smallside.jpg |

Hello and welcome to the forum. One nice automobile you've got there.

Jealousy is an understatement here... WOW! Nice find, and since this is your second one, you've got some know-how already. You're a man after my own sickness with the cleaning... I never work on a dirty car, ever!
Have you done a compression/leakdown test to see if the motor is healthy? I've never done any serious homework on the 323... what's the weak link in the drivetrain? Will the axles/dif's handle 300whp on the street? The GT2554r on a stock 1.6 w/MS and a decent exhaust should get you in the 200-210awhp neighborhood... maybe a little more with a 3" exhaust and some tuning. So, just fill in your profile WITH YOUR LOCATION cause I saw at SA you live in Cali, and add the 323 and short writeup to your signature. Welcome! |
Welcome. AWD is sweet! I would love to do that to my miata. But it would be to hard to place the B2200 front axle.

Always loved those cars, good luck man!

Yeah, I've had plenty of old Japanese cars and a weekend with a pressure washer, a nice stiff-bristle brush and some Simple Green or 2butoxy-ethanol makes it much nice to work on. My hands stay cleaner, and it makes it easier to do the welds on stuff with everything clean. The car won't even be stock again so I'm currently making a wiring harness for COPs and the MS unit I have. The motor is a newer JDMu motor and trans, installed by Road Race Engineering in 2002 or so. I bought it for $1500 from them after the owner couldn't afford the rest of the swap. RRE held the car for 5 years, couldn't get it started due to electrical problems, and I got it running with nothing more than a multimeter, a schematic and a some parts they included. Its a rust free GTX with a new axles and clutch. I have a LOT of work left to do, but leaving it ugly on the outside and making a clean and clear understated engine compartment is my plan. |
If I remember right from the thread didn't you pick up a third GTX now?

Been a while since I updated. I'm running the 1989 GTX as a daily driver, it just needed a PCV valve and hose.
The blue project GTX on the other hand, is much more ambitious than before. I've bought VEMS unit from a BG GTX engine in a BF, so I have a milspec twistlock connector harness now speficially for a GTX made. I'm running a 1.6L Miata CAS, Camry V6 COPs, the VEMS V3 board, with built in wideband and EGT, and a bosch knock sensor. I'm keeping a simplified variation of the evap purge system to keep the condensation down as its only going to be a weekend driver. I have a HKS 2.5" exhaust, a Fidanza flywheel and a Clutchmasters dual material clutch for it now, courtesy of the 89 I picked up. With some Porterfield r4s pads, the stainless brake lines, and the new calipers (also from the 89), I'll have a modern beast that can stop and require a rear LSD in short order. I'm keeping stock turbo, downpipe, and intercooler for now to get it all running, then its off to a Celica alltrac water-air intercooler, a BEGI S4 bottom-mount manifold, and a GT2560. |
Forgot pictures, new post to keep it cleaner!

Took off all the vacuum nipples from the manifold and TB I won't use, used VHT high-temp flat blue header paint, it looks better in person than on my shitty camera.
