NY joining in on the fun. Never thought I'd turbo the Miazda.

Well ladies and gentleman, didn't think it would happen, wanted to keep the motor stock from FI, SC at best, but earlier today shot down to NJ to pick up a certain kit from another member - MikeRiv87

Kit consists of
Greddy 15G turbo from 1.6L Kit
ETD Racing 1.8L Greddy Conversion Manifold
Racing Mazda DP
2.5" "Test Pipe"
CX Racing Intercooler/Piping
Greddy Type S Knock-off
Flying Miata Heatshield
RX7 460cc Injectors

Now a little bit about my background.

It all started off with a Crx about, gosh, 5 years ago now.

Skip to this day. I still own it, blew it up 3 years ago and I've been piecing together a solid 400whp kit all this time with me being within spitting distance of the finish line.

However I get side tracked a lot and since I've blew up the Crx I've had other purchases getting in the way
98 Subaru Legacy GT (still have)
03 Suzuki Svs650 (still have)
90si Crx, 91 Si Crx (sold/parted out)
94 Miazda (still have, go figure eh?)
06 Kawasaki 636 (died in a fiery crash)
05 Suzuki GSXR 600 (still have)
87 Bmw 325IS (picked it up today, after the turbo kit)

So I got plenty of toys, but Miata is up there on the list and was my first RWD platform (not counting bikes).

Looks like it will be the first project that I successfully finish however.

I'm looking for ~210whp with Megasquirt as engine management.

Should be interesting.

The clutch I'm expecting to go and will be replaced, the diff I'm also expecting to go (viscus) and the motor soon after. Luckily rebuilding the 1.8's and pulling them out is even easier then the Honda motors I'm used to so I'm expecting it and just going to have fun until I got to pull it back out.

Welcome, I stopped riding bikes myself. I quess my mom prayed me out of them. Even though my bike would pull 9's. It just got old. They leave alot of people braindead. Taking care of them makes you not want to ride one!

AND I like A/C.

Welcome to the Forum!

Sweet, another Honda convert. Welcome!

How many miles on the miata? With the 15g putting down 220whp with a good tune I wouldn't expect to be pulling the motor that soon

That's a pretty nice list of toys!
Congrats on picking up the turbo kit.

Welcome to the Forum!

What bike did you have? I presume a liter to be quoting estimated 9's ET.

The risk is a major part of the fun.

Not quite a convert, I will finish the Crx build someday once I stop buying cars.

Looking for an original VW Beetle and a Chevy 2500 next.

Miata has about 200K, and they weren't easy. Used to be supercharged already by the previous owner. Haven't done the compression test since I bought it, but that's questionable. It will be dyno tuned and properly managed and watched by gauges but I have my fears and lack of trust in an old(er) motor, especially knowing I won't be easy on it. It's good to have a few other cars and bikes as a backup.

2001 GSXR1000, 2005 ZX10R, and older bling bling ZX9R.

Don't forget about the little things... motor mounts and a new fuel filter come to mind.

A clutch is mandatory at that those power levels... check out the FM Stage1 Clutch. Don't wait on the clutch, do it when you install the turbo system and have the stock exhaust completely removed to make is all easy.

With MS and big enough exhaust, you'll probably be at 210whp in the 12-13whp range... which means on a good tune, you stand a great chance of getting some good longevity out of the motor. Don't count on blowing it up in a matter of months... maybe more like years.

The capability of the stock dif lies on your left foot. Dragging, drifting, burnouts, wheel-hop are the killers of the 6" ring&pinion. People who can manage their clutch slippage usually have no problem getting the dif to last.

I abused a 130k mile motor that eventually blew a head gasket, and replaced it with a 260k (not a typo) motor and pushed 15psi+ for 8k miles before I sold it. They are very robust. Even if the compression is good, throw in some Marvel Mystery Oil and drive the piss out of it.
