Ohio noob!!
Well I am going about this in a slightly unorthodox way. I am coming from a dsm subaru and ls1 back ground and I decided it is time to build a track/street car. So basically what we have here is I am in negotiations hopefully picking one up in the next week or two and I need some information from you guys.
Time to put the flame suite on .... I literally have everything I need to swap a 4g63 into a Miata in a rwd fashion. I am just awaiting a deal to actually follow through on a shell. I'll hopefully to be able to start adding pictures after this weekend!! Thanks in advance guys! |
Just post pics. Of your cats, of course, nobody cares about the 4G. Except maybe greddygalant.
|
Better than an SR swap i suppose.
Yeah, pics of your cat are needed. |
I figured as much
I mainly came here to get advice on the actual chassis ... Rear end... Suspension etc.. |
mostly just busting your balls. Take the ball busting along with the good.
This the first time you're doing something like this? |
Well fist time anything with a Miata
Did the ls1 into a rx7 . Did a 8.8 rear end into a talon with a 4 link kit from summit. Made a few of my own manifolds so I've done something similar just nothing with a Miata per say |
Welcome to the forum. There will be some hurdles to get over but with enough fabrication skills, time, and patience, many things can be done. What transmission options are you considering for this swap?
Are you looking to build a drag car or a road racing car? |
What year are you considering picking up? Don't bother with anything older than 94, unless you have a diff, axles, driveshaft, brakes and 1.8 engine ready to swap in.
|
This might be a good candidate for you: 1994 Mazda Miata
I thought long and hard about picking it up myself actually. |
Track car
Not really sure what kind of hp number I should be shooting for. But I def am not building a drag car And monk I think u missed part of the thread here Looks good but how much can I sell the engine trans and rear end out of it for? |
Welcome, 4gmiata!
|
If you're not building a drag car I'm not sure why you're going with a 4g63. It's a great engine, makes absurd power, but is heavy and not exactly responsive or well suited for track work. If you wanted to drag race it, it would be pretty good for that.
I dunno. I'm all for cool engine swaps but... |
Responsiveness depends on turbo selection.

I totally agree it is a bit heavier but like he said it is a vast improvement in every way ... A stock 4g can see the 500 hp area with a good tune
I am looking for a reliable 400 ish quick spooling hp that I don't have to sell a lung for And if I ever want to drag race I'll slap and hx40 on it and make 600 hp |

saying it's better than a BP is like saying its just better than a turd
sure, it has really big power holding flow capability, but that's about it. responsiveness isn't just about turbo selection, even on the stock 16g the evo is on par with a prius to about 4000-4500rpm which is pathetic low compression, the cam profiles, lots of other things make it not a very responsive engine. It's whatever, I'm just saying that just because you have a certain engine doesn't make it the best reason to swap it in. |
Lol that's a gross exaggeration and you know it.
DSMs are extremely responsive with the right turbo, tune, setup, etc. I'm just saying that it's not a step in the wrong direction in terms of anything but maybe weight, and i'd gladly trade 50lbs for a bomb motor. |
Because this is gonna be a track weekend car and a toy and maybe for drag racing ..... If my problem is I am trying to get it moving under 4k I guess I have bigger problems than the setup
|
OP should to drive a 150hp or MAYBE a 200hp track Miata first.
