Old lurker, new car

I don't know how PC this section it is...

Greetings fellow alternative lifestyle brethren!

I never got around to doing an intro last time around, so I shall now.

I've owned several miatas including a turbo 90, turbo 95, and a 2009 NC2. I just recently bought a built turbo NA but its rawness didn't suit my style enough to continue down the path. I swapped it with another member for a 2004 MSM a couple weeks ago and couldn't be happier with the decision.

My MSM has the old FM big enchilada with the Blouch turbo. I will be heading to the dyno soon to retune the car and see what it is putting out before swapping to a bigger turbo setup and built engine.

I have gathered some parts to install in the next few weeks to get the car in fighting shape to tune for max effort on this tiny little baby turbo:

3.63 gears and appropriate speedo gear
Turbosmart boost tee (the brass FM controller was fucking garbage)
FM level 2 clutch
new stock flywheel
2.5" downpipe with metallic 200 cell race cat
new front wheel bearings and hubs
15x8 +25 Varrstoen wheels (a stopgap until 6UL's are available again)
Falken RT615K tires

I'm glad you're liking the car. :) It truly is an awesome car, just.... well...

We have the opposite tastes in Miatas.

Also: Goddamn you for trading us another goddamn RED car.

Also also: It's an ex-Big Enchilada car. Now it's a Little Enchilada with a Haltech. Much better.

Plastidip the bitch!

Also: I gotta know.

The MSM when you were raping it with 16psi was quite a bit faster than the NA, right?

Only at the top end and only by a tiny smidge. It did feel a lot better at the hit than at 13 psi though.

You have a beastfuck of a 2554R though. I am convinced the PO was accidentally sent a 2560 because that thing rapes tires like fuck-all-holy-shit.

concealer404 03-04-2014 09:42 AM

It does.... i need to get the Star Specs on it and see if it does any better, because it's almost not fun the way it is now. :P

Welcome (though we've talked already lol)

Now that you have concealers car maybe we'll get proper pics, videos, and dyno plot of this thing lol

He doesn't believe in such things as documentation...tee hee

Motherfucker, i've posted two dyno plots from two different dynos on this thing, as well as video of it on the dyno this past summer.

We did take a 100mph rape pull video during the test drive. I should probably take a look at the footage and see if it's decent.

And there's lots of footage i need to get around to processing of the car at Deal's Gap, Grand Mesa, Highway 1, Mulholland, etc etc etc.

I just never considered that car a "build" or a "project," so i didn't bother documenting it like the Escort or MX6. :P

But really, i'm excited to see what Cameron does with this thing. We liked the car, it's the nicest car we've ever had, but i just couldn't justify building it the way i wanted. Sounds like Cameron has no such qualms and i'm happy it's destined for glory.

if he picks up the parts he's been asking me about, its gonna rape face ;)

I am on it. I just need some snow to melt and a decent weekend to drive the car 1.5 hrs to my buddy's shop for the tuning/clutch work.

That's awesome, because it's not exactly "slow" now. :brain:

IMO you should look into running a MAC solenoid for boost instead of the T. That little fucker sucks ass at over boosting over time. Fails much quicker than the FM brass POS. I had overboost issues overtime and even with DIYs solenoid it eventually pooped on me. The MAC solenoid was the only one that hs taken the abuse. Nothing like having all the boost when you want it.

I was thinking about going with the GM solenoid but I need to figure out how to get the Haltech to run it. Until then the boost tee should work fine plus it was only $50 new.

Thats cool if that works for you. The mac can be had for 25 buck shipped. Im sure there are lots of threads to source to wire any EBC solenoid into the haltech. Most of them operate the same just sometimes different frequency

I'll get round to it when I replace the turbo with something more biggerly

Ludwig Motorsports has the MAC 3-port for $49, was going to put it on the car this Spring.

Don't be so niggardly with your boost control, even before your biggerly tarblow.
