Don't have an MX5 yet but I'm planning to get one within a year or so and figured I'd join up. You won't get any "omg which turb0z is t3h f4st3rs!?11!eleventy!" from me I learned about how that goes on other forums

I currently have an 05 WRX (pix below) and have always wanted an MX5 for some reason. After driving one in FL at a Mazda Zoom-Zoom Live event I knew I would get one as my next car. I'm thinking maybe 94-97 but still have to research some more. My roommate in FL had an 04 (I believe) MSM and that thing was a hoot!

Hoping to learn a lot here and hopefully when I finally get one I can check for any local meets.

Welcome aboard Sam.

From your post I deduct you still have a lot to read before you can decide your best option.

BTW; nice WRX

Thanks I do still have a lot of reading to do before I decide which is why I joined way before I purchase . After seeing some pix on here I'm kind of leaning towards maybe a 2000 but who knows. The main reason I was looking at 94-97 was because the 1.8 and I figured it would be lighter than the newer models since we know how that goes in modern cars

Also my the MX5 would become my main DD and I am probably going to focus on suspension (I saw that Flyin Miata suspension kit for about $1100 that looks like a steal) I've been searching on maybe a few mods for performance but nothing crazy. It doesn't need big power to be fun

Sam, if you are obd2 where you are, and I'm sure you are, you should think about getting a 95 or earlier. I have a 90, I'm in NY (obd2), and the inspection garages don't even open the hood. You can't run standalone engine management and preserve obd2/cel, especially when the inspection station needs to hook up and report back to the state.
