Out of the shadows
I've been reading here for awhile but just discovered to do a reply you have to have done a certain amount of posts so I'll come out of the shadows and say hi.
We are a Miata family in Charleston, S.C. and between the wife and I we have accumulated 4 Miatas, 3 of which are boosted. I have a Miatas since 1996 but the wife got hers in 1992 before we met. 1991 White NA CSP and track day car 1992 Sunburst Yellow with a JR supercharger / wife's track car 1992 Silver with an FM I track car (currently no motor) 2004 Titanium Mazdaspeed street and track day car Our addiction to boost includes a 2002 Chevy Duramax PU as a tow vehicle and the wife drives a WRX STi as a DD. When I finally get off my butt and replace the engine in the Silver car I would probably also look to do something to upgrade the ECU situation which is why I've been reading here. Since the car is a track only car at this point my concern has been about being able to get it tuned if i go with an aftermarket computer. Living in Charleston is like the great wasteland of tuners for anything but a Honda. |
Hey welcome to the forums. There is a dyno shop up here that has a decent knowledge of piggy-backs and AEM i think, he may also know megasquirt and the works :dunno: What part of Charleston are you in?
|
I'm out on James Island.
The only place I've found around here that seems to be willing to listen and work with you is in West Ashley, GSC, but they seem to be geared to WRX/EVO/Hondas. |
South Carolina
ATS Performance 6001 Two Notch Rd. Columbia, SC (803)786-7766 BUCKSHOT RACING TEAM, INC. 182 BELUE RD. SPARTANBURG, SC 864-583-0075 Power Zone Performance 5638 Craig Rd. Charleston, SC 843-744-1200 a quick search procreated these results, i think ATS is the one i'm thinking of |
ATS will be a 3 hour tow for me, Buckshot would be 5. As for PowerZone. He's outright scary. He tried to tell me that my bone stock MSM was defective because it was running 18:1 AF under boost. Then I realized I had watched him spend 2 hours trying to tune some Mustang and both he and a bystander "expert" agreed it was because they guy was running the wrong intake system. I went to another dyno and to my amazement found my AF was just fine and the guy at PZ had bad equipment and couldn't figure it out.
|
hang on which car are you trying to get tuned and what are its specs?
|
Right now neither but I would eventually be looking to do some aftermarket ECU for the 92 with the FM I kit.
My telling you about the MSM was just because you mentioned my favorite dyno shop. :bang: |
Larry - welcome from a fellow noob that is emerging from the shadows! You have a Miata collection that would make anyone here envious. Nice work!
|
Your collection isn't shabby, it's just not a lot of Miatas. You have a few there I wouldn't mind adding to my stable! :)
|
we need pictures of all for of your miatas
and one of your wife....... |
There are some pictures and videos on the website. The funny thing is the one thing we have never done is put them all together for a picture.
|
welcome to the forum.
as for aftermarket ecu. why not get a megasquirt and just go down to DIY and have them tune it for ya? ur in the south so ur a lot closer than i am and i plan on going on there once i get boosted. |
That's a possibility but they aren't exactly around the corner. Towing from Charleston that's probably a 6 hour tow.
|
did i miss something? why does the car HAVE to be towed?
|
It's one of the 2 of the 4 that's not registered. It's track only at this point.
|
gottcha. makes sense. carry on.
