Screaming Hi from across the pond!
Hello, I'm a 25 year old guy living in Sweden.
Bought my miata around a year ago from Germany because at that time there was not a great number of vehicles to choose from. Its a nb1 1.8l in "evolution orange", everyone in person calls it gold but the German DMV called it Red in their papers. Germans... I only drove it for a couple of weeks because winter was approaching. You can't drive a miata with all the moose and other strange creatures we got here. Before it went out from the garage this season I did some minor modifications. Konig wide open 15x8 with some piss T1R's fitted HSD Monopro coilovers (for the price they are wonderful) Front brace between shock towers Harddog roll bar And some other small mods Also drove halfway up our dic*shaped country to buy a mint FM voodoo turbokit but just kept the turbo and IC As our CELCIUS(?!?) are approaching zero the miata have found its way to the garage once again and now my purchase list is longer then our summer season. Currently got the following An order at Sturovo (guy in Slovakia, was born with a welder) Making log manifold, 3" full exhaust and all the hoses and gaskets. GT2560R turbo AEM UEGO wb ID1000 injectors 50mm aluminum radiator Stiff (probably too stiff) poly motor mounts Delrin diff bushings Wildwood front bbk And some minor stuff As I see it, the "only" thing missing is a Ms3 basic from Reverant(ordering in December) and a better clutch. Maybe I will get a light flywheel, we'll see. Will start tomorrow pulling the engine and transmission, this will take time as my car is about 35 miles (yes US miles) away and that's where I will do all the work. But, no hurry. Going for vacation from mid December to the beginning of February. Its just bolt ons... Right guys? (( I imagine now me laying in the corner crying like a baby screaming. "They said everything would bolt on! *sniffels* everything would bolt on..." )) I see now, my grammar may not fit the New York Times but I'd think the length of this article would. Thats my small hello. Tldr Hi Bye |
Welcome. That's an interesting drive to just work on the Miata. Any pictures of your red/gold/orange car?

Well, not the best picture bit the latest.

Welcome! It looks like you have a good plan already. I recommend pulling the engine and transmission as one. Also, you will notice when you pull the motor that the passenger side motor mounting hole is sloted on the subframe. When you reinstall the motor, loosely mount the driver's side motor mount to the subframe, and the passenger's side motor mount to the engine. A cheap load leveler on your hoist will make the job much easier. Using this general approach, I've swapped 5 miata engines alone in a gravel driveway.

Thanks for the tip!
Actually bought the AWR engine mounts, should I still follow this procedure? Pulled the coal canister and the intake in two (just for looks, first time doing this) but I'm amused that I figure everything out with just some basic reading before hand. Well, I would rate myself 6/10 of a handyman with a tablespoon of fu*kups |
I'm not certain, but I'm guessing the motor mounts will install very similar to the OEM mounts.
Here are some tips for pulling the engine in no particular order: If you pull the engine and trans as one, you have to get them at quite an angle to get them in and out. Remove the front sway bar, front subframe cross brace, and spark coil pack. This will give you the clearance you need. Don't forget to unbolt the slave cylinder from the transmission. Remove your oil dipstick so you don't break the plastic ring off of the top. Don't forget to remove the stick shift. Be very careful as the very tail of the transmission shifter turret clears the engine bay. It can snag and jump free, swinging into your windshield. Curse at the clutch hard line mounting bracket above the starter. Buy the hard line delete kit for next time. Good luck! |
This is it, 2 days ago started with this.
Still haven't got the parts from Revent (manifold, dp, exhaust) but since I had some work to do beforehand, I did this https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...df9bf6ca8f.jpghttps://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...4becc2a630.jpg |
