And so it begins

Greetings to all, even you, dick holster. (there's one in every crowd and I didn't want to leave anybody out) I finally scratched that itch, that lust that obsession to own a Miata. Just for fun. No daily grind. The car is a 2002 SE 94k mi. Hard dog roll bar, Xidas suspension, Advanti 15x9 Storms wrapped in 225/45ZR15 Toyo RA1s, Racingbeat front sway bar, Racingbeat carb legal cold air intake and cat back exhaust. In my opinion, the first thing to do when wanting to make your car go faster is become a better driver. That being said, my focus for the car is set up, trouble shooting and maintenance. I'm in Greenfield CA (1.5hrs South of Laguna Seca) I look forward to learning from you "all knowing ones" then out braking you going into turn 5.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of track rats here.

Any plans for power mods?

Greetings! As a fellow 2002 SE owner you picked one of the best to get started with!

Thank you for the warm greetings. I do want to turbo charge the car but for now I just want to get comfortable with it as is. I'm new to driving on the track and I think learning in an under powered car will be easier. You know the old saying "it's funner to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow". So for now I plan on getting to know my new toy and figure out set up, tires and go through all the maintenance aspects. First things first though, the car is throwing a P0300 multiple cylinder miss fire code. The NGK iridium plugs have 3k mi on them. I did some reading and thought the cam position sensor might be the problem so I bought 2 and while I was shopping I picked up a crank position sensor just in case. I installed the CPS and cleared the code. I drove the car in the local canyons for a couple hours with no stalls or flashing engine lights so I patted myself on the back and called it good. The following weekend I drove up to Laguna Seca for the Miata event (good times!) and on the way home it lost power when cruzing at about 4k rpm. Like a light switch. On then off then back on again, like everything is fine, of course the engine light flashing then burning bright is anything but fine so I'm hoping to make some time this weekend and change the crank sensor. Does that sound like the next logical choice? I can't believe how lucky I was to find this car. It's the year and model I've been dreaming of and the mods that have been done by the previous owner are exactly as I would have done. The midnight Micah blue paint job doesn't hurt my feelings either, I just wish the interior was all black instead of tan and black. Sorry for being so long winded. I'm still in the honey moon faze of my relationship with the car.
All the best. Tony
