Stanced JDM Eunos build - reddy 4 dat 4psi Greddy madness!

Haha, just messing with you guys! :noob:

My name is Dustin, I'm an engineering student from Arlington, TX.

I have been viewing this site almost daily for a couple years, I figured its time to make a profile and come out of the shadows!

My car is a 2004 LS Emerald Mica, I'll post pics of the car and my cat when I get home later tonight. Nothing special to see though, the car is very stock. My only mods to it have been some Mazda Competition motor mounts, energy suspension differential bushings, FM sways (from my previous miata), and thats about it.

I previously had a 2000 Miata SE that was in really good condition, but it was totaled 2 days before my wedding last year. Some old lady driving a new Malibu was in a rush to her 71st birthday(no joke), and decided YIELD always means "GO!!! At all costs floor it and smash the **** out of everything in the way!". My car spun around 2 full times(hit me in the driver door and quarter panel), flew into a large ditch, and almost flipped over. That was very scary, I didn't have a rollbar and I have seen pictures of what happens when a Miata flips. I had just put FM frame rails, butterfly brace, 2005 Sport brakes on the rear, a wilwood prop valve, and a bunch of other small upgrades in the car about a month earlier too. I went on the honeymoon for a week, came back to continue engineering school, and bought this miata the next weekend.

For hobbies, I don't really have any other than tinkering with small things on the car, and drinking many different craft brews. I used to rock climb alot, but not so much anymore.

I work at an aerospace company as an intern, and my wife is a school teacher at a charter school, aka my car budget is very small!

I have never driven on track or autocross, so I have no experience there.

I have no fabrication skills, but I want to learn to TIG aluminum sometime soon. I always have a lot of ideas, but all of them require fabrication skills I don't have

When it comes to plans for the car, I don't know what the end goal is, probably something extremely fun on the street, and able to handle track duties.

I know I want an EFR series turbo, ARTech manifold, and XIDA coilovers

actually got me with the title, props :giggle:

I also came in for the hate.

But I don't see any cat pictures in here, so that's something to be angry about.

The schwartz is strong with this one. I guess we'll let him live.

Welcome to the forum!

hornetball 05-22-2014 03:10 PM

I'd like to meet you (no, not like that you pervert).

What's your major at UTA? My company (as in MY company) is always looking for engineers.

I'll be test driving my red car at MSR-C sometime this weekend. No 71 yo ladies there, although there is a 70+ guy in a black 911 that doesn't give point-bys to Miatas. But he's an awfully nice guy, so you can't get mad (I did, then I met him and felt like a shithead). Wanna' tag along? PM.

18psi 05-22-2014 03:16 PM

in for man date and docking

I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at UTA. In case your wondering, no I am not involved in FSAE. I wish I was, but between the full load of engineering classes, trying to hold my near 4.0 GPA, my internship, and spending time with my wife, there is no time for it.

I would PM you, but I believe I must have a certain number of posts, which I do not have yet. Going to the track would be awesome though, I have always wanted to see what it is like. Can you PM me, even though I cannot PM you? I'm definately interested in your company.

dieselmiata 05-22-2014 04:25 PM

LOL, I never would have though I'd see a noob needing 15 posts to PM about a job opportunity! :bowrofl:

Just post a shit-ton of cat pictures. It's not spam if it's kitties.

Well, that escalated quickly.

This forum really is all about gay sex and tubular manifolds, isn't it?

I say all of these things with respect, of course.

I can't believe I didn't join earlier. Too many times have I almost spit coffee all over the monitors at work reading everyones posts.

I'm just glad I didn't start off with negative props!

Miater 05-22-2014 05:19 PM

I'm in Arlington, I live with my kitty and can host anytime for NSA docking.

Welcome.

Dustin1824 05-22-2014 06:08 PM

With you guys responding in TX, maybe one day I can take a ride in a turbo miata that is actually fast...

The only encounters I have had with turbo miatas are both test drives of cars I was going to buy.

I test drove a MSM with some FM goodies and thought "This isn't that fast", when I told the owner, he said it was quite a bit faster than stock. So I decided no for the price point.

The other time was a SUPPOSEDLY 300HP miata with some Begi kit running a 2860, which had a terrible tune(I saw the AFR drop below 10 multiple times, and rise to 15 at other times throughout the rev range at WOT), and didn't make real power until 6000 RPMs. I know for sure it was not 300HP.

300HP in a miata is supposed to scare the living **** out of me, correct?

Anyone near Arlington TX wanna scare the crap out of me with their turbo Miata? I'm down as long as docking is kept to a minimum.

chriscar 05-22-2014 06:32 PM

Carrollton checking in here - and ex-boost, now VVT, so no scary rides for you (or me).

C

Welcome.

It's good to see someone else from Arlington. I always see Miatas around, but they are almost always stock or owned by some punk Fast & Furious fanboy. This site has been my last hope for keeping my Miata, knowing it actually has potential to be a fast car if I make the right decisions!

By the way, still can't respond to your PM. I'll text you tomorrow if I can't hit the 15 post mark.

I don't want to spam because I know you guys won't hesitate to hammer me, but how am I supposed to hit 15 posts without spamming? I have nothing to contribute to the MT community! :noob:

Never before in my life. Encouraging a noon to spam kitten pictures so he can PM somebody about track time and a job. And positive prop count.

You've all gone soft. I came in here hard and now I'm soft too.

Welcome to member status. I'd welcome you to the site but it's obvious you've been here a while! :D

Dustin1824 05-23-2014 02:00 AM

I'm surprised too! Sooner or later, I'll post some stupid question instead of searching(Probably about MS3, when I go that route), don't worry, you guys will have your chance to rip me.

BTW, searching usually leads me to finding 15 threads with 5 guys telling others to search, but never actually a thread regarding the subject in question...is this normal?

turbofan 05-23-2014 02:16 AM

Completely. People NOT searching has made it more difficult for those who search.

FRT_Fun 05-23-2014 02:33 AM

Stop toying with my emotions. I want to hate noobs not love them.

Hmm, is there any remedy to this? Maybe posting actual links to the thread that answers the questions, along with telling them to search? That seems like a lot of work though, because then you would need to keep a directory of different threads that pertained to the various topics so it would be easy to paste in the URL. All because of those who do not know how to search...

18psi 05-23-2014 03:25 PM

The remedy is banning all the hopeless retards.

Dustin1824 05-23-2014 04:01 PM

Well, I just got a year subscription to MT!

I figured I owed to the MT community for all of the entertainment and information over the last couple years!

I'm here for good, or until I go full retard and get banned (hopefully this will never happen)

18psi 05-23-2014 04:02 PM

and now you're at 16 posts and can PM and do everything else :)

and everyone likes you....so far :)

next n00b to go full retard I'll link him to this thread so he can take some pointers from you

Oh trust me, already sent that PM right at 15 posts! I want to tag along with Hornetball at the track. I've never been, so

Now if someone with a TIG would like to start teaching me how to weld, I'll be in heaven!

As far as noobs go, I have read some Intro threads in the past, and sometimes I have been personally pissed off. It's as though they are educated on how to go full retard. It seems like if they were really so clueless and just posted every thought that came into their brain, they would sometimes post about a legit mod or parts

FRT_Fun 05-23-2014 04:45 PM

I think the disconnect here is the "thought" and "brain" part of making a post. Most skip the whole brain area in general and it is just a direct link from ass to finger tips.

Update: Went to MSR-Cresson with Hornetball today!:party::party:

It was really awesome! Reflecting back on it, it's the most fun I've had in a car, period. I always knew I would like it, but really, its something you must experience, Youtube doesn't do it justice.

Calling all fellow noobs! :noob:

You must do a ride along at a track! Ask someone with some experience. It's an enlightening experience. Just do it. You won't be sorry.

New goal: Get a track day/weekend in my car(probably through a noob driving school/event). I believe I will need a roll bar. So that's first on my list now.

Thanks again Hornetball!

hornetball 05-25-2014 11:50 AM

Date Video for Vlad!

Member days are interesting. They group by category -- Sports Cars, Motorcycles, Open Wheel Formula Cars. The Sports Car category is wide open, and you get a huge mix of cars/experience levels, from pro/semi-pro drivers in fully prepped race cars to the new guy cruising the track in a brand new off-the-shelf car. Heads up! Be polite and enjoy yourself!

Session 3 Video:

Points of interest:
4:00-4:40: Passing a nice looking, new BRZ. Later in this session, this car came together with a fully-prepped Mustang racecar. Again, category is wide open. It's a bummer when the cars get hurt, but everyone was OK.

5:20: Nice looking M3. Another newish driver.

7:20: Miatas excel on Ricochet, although I'm taking it rather slow because rust (haven't been on track since March), new-to-me car, guest, and -- now that I've run out of excuses -- lack of gonads. We do make a lot of passes on the straight out of Ricochet.

7:59: This guy with the new, red M3 is kind of scary. He likes to brake in the apexes! Electronics on that car must be working overtime.

11:15: Being a nice guy and letting a Laguna Seca Mustang pass. He has gobs of power. My reward? Getting to go slow in the turns. Sigh.

12:51: C'mon squirrels . . . we can pass this M3 going uphill!

14:05: There goes rocket Bob in his C5R with a prototype in tow. Maybe I'll tag along . . . .

14:30: Disabled stock car on right!

14:39: Tag along worked -- passed the Laguna Seca.

15:00: OK . . . I guess those guys have more power than I do. But their front brake pads probably cost more than $50. LOL.

16:50: Deja Vu. Which means I get to slam on the brakes going into Rattlesnake again.

17:30: End of session. That was fun.

Session 4 Video:

Points of interest:
1:13: Stock car. C'ya!

3:40: Noob off on right.

4:10: PO put FM tophats on the front. The fender rubbing in the dip at Toilet Bowl is really upsetting the car. WHERE ARE MY XIDAS??

4:50: Polite Caddy driver lets me by.

8:38: This red BMW is slow in the turns but has a lot of power. He really surprised me by hitting his brakes hard going into an Apex.

9:31: Stock car and Keith Verges (Apex Driving Academy owner) in his "Bumblebee" turbo Miata. C'ya!

11:13: Finally! That red BMW is scary.

11:54: This Caddy had 3.5" pipes. Apparently, it also had the same apex auto-brake system the red BMW had. At least he let me by quickly.

17:00: Spec Miata. I should be pretty even with him but he was driving better. He also didn't have a passenger (my excuse).

18:05: End of session. Fun!
