The start of a slippery slope

What's up all. Been lurking on MT.net for awhile and finally decided to man up, don the flame suit and submit an intro.

My name's Aiden and I'm up in Fort Collins, CO. I just acquired my fifth Miata, a '99 NB that's been built as a weekend tracker. MP45 JRSC, Devil's Own alc inj., exhaust, etc. etc. I'm going to be taking the car in a different direction, making it into a semi-comfortable, small-turboed canyon carver. First order of business is to ditch the MP45 and use the funds to purchase a Reverent MS3. I've been doing a ton of reading here and elsewhere but will undoubtedly have a passel of questions: some of them even relevant

I hope to come in around 200 WHP with a home brew turbo set-up, though details are still coming into focus as I try to figure out a budget. First and foremost, of course, is the MS3 and tuning.

If anyone's local and wants to swing through town for a beer sometime, hit me up. There's a micro-brewery or micro-distillery on every other corner of town. :bigtu:

A pic of the new project:

If youre not set on the home-brewedness of your turbo set-up, Begi just released an externally wastegated 200hp turbo kit for right at 3k.

I like the car! Those arent the 2001+ lights, so what did you do to them?

Also, what is your wheel, tire, and suspension set-up?

I'm liking the car too...

The headlights are OEM '99 housings with Morimoto D2S HID's from the Retrofit Source installed. Though installed by the PO, I've heard nothing but good things about the kit. I do know from driving the car back to CO from TX where I purchased it that the light output is incredible and the projectors have a very street-friendly cutoff: no blinding oncoming traffic.

The suspension setup is Flyin Miata Vmaxx coilovers, Racing Beat tubular front sway and adjustable links, 949 Racing 15X8 6UL rims in Nickel, Yokohama S-Drive 205/50R15 tires. Stopping power by Porterfield R4S's at all four corners.

I saw the BEGI NB200 turbo system release and was quite interested. I was thinking home-brew mainly because I want the wider parameters of tuning that an MS3 gives, though for my application an MS2 might be plenty. The BEGI kit I believe comes with piggys but I'd have to read more closely. Research time!!!

Actually the Begi kit uses a (sort of) in-house reflash from Begi itself. You would actually knock off a good amount of money from the kit if you used Reverants MS3, assuming they would sell you the kit sans their reflash.

How do you like the Vmaxx's? I have a Mazdaspeed that I want to mildy build with my tiny budget and the stock suspension blows, so I was thinking really hard on the adjustable Vmaxxs.

Thanks for the heads up. As I get further along the planning of the turbo setup, I'll shoot BEGI a contact and see what eliminating the ECU reflash would save me money-wise. I'm wary of reflashes because if I change the setup on down the line, I won't have nearly the same flexibility.

I'm quite liking the Vmaxx setup. I don't have a ton of coilover experience to compare them with but can say that they feel more planted than the Tein Street setup a buddy had on his '00. I had Racelands on my '90 and liked the liveliness of the suspension. Even trying to account for the difference in feel between an NA and NB, so far I think that the '90 was more fun to put through corners with the RL's and 14's than this '99 with Vmaxx and 15's. Perhaps it's just what I'm used to. (Flame suit on...)

Welcome, gestatin!

Hi Aiden, nice looking NB! If you ever make it down this way (CoSpgs) for some driving or beer PM me. Always down for both.

What did you do with the mp45 Jr supercharger. I have akit for a Honda but thinking about putting it on a 1.6 Eng. Need the mounting brackets or info to get them.
