Swapping from Belt to exhaust driven :)
Hey guys,
I have been playing with forced induction on my Miata for a year now, using an M45 I got cheap from a co-worker when he decided to go turbo. Started out with the basic setup running 5.5 psi of boost and dynoed it at 164 wheel HP 139 lb/ft torque. I had some fun with it, eventually running a 14.855 @ 93.37 at US41 dragway. Then like any junkie I had to increase my dosage! I swapped over to E85 fuel with RX8 injectors and a walbro 255 lph pump, and swapped in a larger crank pulley and smaller nose pulley on the supercharger. Now making around 9.5 psi peak boost I put down 200 WHP and 174 lb/ft torque. This was on rudimentary fuel control from an old school non-adjustable power card. I then purchased an MS3 and started tuning it. Before spring rolled around I had already decided to swap to a turbo system, and have chosen a BEGI S4 setup with GT2860 turbo, external wastegate, and the V-band housing. This used to be called the S6 setup before they changed their designations. Along with the S4 setup I am getting a full 3" exhaust system, ACT clutch, ACT pro lite flywheel, radiator upgrade, and coolant re-route. Thanks for listening to me ramble :) Keith |
Very intelligent decision making sir! I read about you running a power card, I was like "oh god, here we go with another clown...what? MS3?? This guy just redeemed himself!!!"
Welcome!!! |

Welcome!!! I have extensive experience tuning the AEM EMS stand alone ECU I used on my EVO VIII back when it was my toy. Ended up making 550 wheel HP on E85 with that setup. Any more and I would have needed upgraded internals. Man do I wish the miata could make over 500 on the stock block! Later, Keith |
intro threads without pictures are stupid. 550 whp on a miata motor is also stupid (stupidly awesome but still stupid).

Here are the demanded pics :) These were taken just after I purchased the car. I will do underhood shots when I have the S4 system installed. I will probably do a "step by step" of the installation.

nice. that thing is pretty clean. When you do you should start a build thread in the media section. w/ lots of pictures of course.

Speaking of low milage, does anyone make standard bore drop in forged pistons? I would love to be able to pull the stockers out, do a hone, and drop in new pistons and rods. With the low milage I don't really need an overbore, but that is all I have found at miata vendors. Keith |
Welcome, Twodoor. Check out the Miata Gallery and post up some pics!

Nice to see another turbo Miata in Indiana, let me know when you are near Brownsburg

Before you start your build i highly recommend combing the builds section as well. There is a ridiculous amount of data on this site. It is one of the most informative car forums on the web.
I wish every noob read this before they did anything on our forum. https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo...k-links-56507/ Plenty of pistons and rods out there. that link will kind of give you a good idea of what parts are good up to what power levels. |
Keith, I have a SC 1990 car that I build in 2009 and am finishing up a 99 sport DYI EFR build right now, we can meet at Putman park next time you or I do a track day!
The 99 build is here https://www.miataturbo.net/build-threads-57/harolds-1999-sport-build-77297/ SC 90 photo https://www.miataturbo.net/album.php?albumid=391&pictureid=2921 |

The 99 build is here Harold's 1999 sport build - Miata Turbo Forum - Turbo Kitten is watching you test compression. SC 90 photo Miata Turbo Forum - Turbo Kitten is watching you test compression. - HHammerly's Album: Red 90 NA - Picture I have never been to putnam park myself, and when I look it up on the net all I see is stuff about "the club" where it costs $7,000 for lowest level membrership and $5,000 a year dues! I take it there are "non-club" days where novice's like myself can get track time? Keith |
Keith,
Look up 10 10th motorsports ( no affiliation) they do track days there all the time and you can request an instructor at no extra charge, there is usually a spec miata guy or two instructing great bang for the buck usually 3 hr of track per day |
