Switched to Miata, from Subaru :bigtu:
4 Attachment(s)
Whats up I recently traded my sti swapped wagon for a 94 miata. I have been into Subaru for more than 10 years and over the years ive owned a bunch of them from an rs, to a legacy ss, forester, and my wagon which i swapped and built over 2 years.
I recently traded for this and i think its a pretty nice starting point. . With the trade i got an uninstalled diy begi type turbo kit (garret 2560), along with a diypnp,intercooler/piping, injectors, lc1 wideband, and just about everything else needed to turbo it. The turbo was never installed on this motor. I dont plan on making a ton of power right off the bat, but am looking to get 160-185 out of it. I have been lurking for a little bit, but want to become a little more familiar with the car, and gain some more knowledge from this site before i turbo this thing. Welcome!
|
Not sure if I should say welcome, or goodbye.
|
not sure if you noticed but your front wheel has 4 spokes and your rear wheel has 5. And you forgot to paint the hood on your subaru wagon. Yo.
I had a wagon like yours that had a turbo too until an illegal Mexican destroyed it. Even with your mismatched hood I think you lost on that trade.

As far as the wheels go, they are Rays/volks, 5/4s's and from what i understand there pretty rare. |

Bought a new house that has a garage, so i got bored one day and decided to start on the turbo build, and about 2 weeks later, boost finally: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328633881 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328633881 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328633881 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328633881 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328633881 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328633881 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328633881 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328633881 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1328633881 Man, i really love this thing. I have it running on megasquirtpnp semi tuned by me, using diydutotune basemap spark table with a few air/fuel adjustments with the help of some very useful threads around here. Thank you. shes running 6lbs of boost on a garret2560, begi log mani, and diy downpipe. I plan to run it in a few auto x and track days this summer. |
Nice car. I live near Hamburg, PA. Drop me a line and we'll meet up and talk turbo miata BS.
|
Nice man, clean car. I actually like those strange ass wheels, looks nice. Also your subie was badass as well.
You are going to want more boost though, this I'm sure of. |
I'm really digging the mis-matched 4 and 5 spoke wheels...seriously. It works for some odd reason.
|
Great work on the NA. I dig your old wagon too, my daily ride is a FXT.

Thanks guys. The wheels are actually a set of wheels. They are rays/volks racing 5/4s. I was a little unsure of them at first as well, but i really really like them now.
|
As of right now im running the stock exhaust without a cat connected to my DIY downpipe.
The down pipe is 2.25 (yea i know should be bigger) after that its just the stock exhaust with a resonator for a cat. In the next few days i plan to make a catback at least 2.5" from the dp back. wondering if i should keep my 2.25 resonator in there or not. Would id be too raspy without it? |
Don't run a resonator...it won't be raspy at all. I have 2 1/2" from the turbo back to a muffler, and that's it. My car is quiet.
|
ok cool thanks. I figured it wouldn't be too loud since it does have the best muffler ever made (turbo). I was more concerned about getting that high pitched buzzing sound at higher rps.
|
Trade fail.
You should have been one of the cool kids and kept the subie and bought a miata too. I own two subarus and a miata! |

nice trade! loving the miata..... got the same color too
|
looks like alot of subby owner goes to miata!
|
Looking forward to driving my car again soon. The miata has been parked since mid september after our first snowfall. I will be affing a few parts this winter...bigger injectors, flyin miatas "thicker" headgasket, some arp head/main studs n bolts. Stg 2 exedy clutch and rx7 440s. I will then be looking to turn up the boost a little and shoot for for 215-220hp. Did I mention I cant wait to get her back on the road!

the 3200lb pig is a fantastic all around car that's better at 90% of everything than a miata, but just so happens not to be a sports car, and doesn't handle as one.
don't hate just cause you jumped ship. many of us have both and love both equally |

I have 2 veedubs. Anyhoo, that was a slick subie, and somehow your wheels are cool in a strange sort of way, and congrats on the turbo, and go ahead and order rods and a bigger turbo and hey, might as well get ID1000's cuz you're gonna get addiiiiiiccccted. :hustler: :giggle: |

You dont think 440s with a 2560 and full 3" exhaust will get me to 215-220? I think so. Should be enough for this year, maybe next winter some pistons/rods and ID1000s. to be honest my subaru was very fast, and very fun just felt heavy. I put an awesome drivetrain in a car that shouldve been in be better shape. Made 300hp weighed 2800lbs. I have built many of subarus before , and like I said when the time is right I will build a propper heavy pig that I will enjoy greatly. |

my subaru plows into corners. I make up for it by being slow in the straights.

No no no no no you're going in the wrong direction! Your old wheels were kinda cool. Your current wheels should automatically redirect you to club roadster.net.
But at least you has trubo. |
I agree with turbofan, your car looked much better with the old wheels. Did you keep the old ones? Wanna sell em?
|
Yea i still have them. Im going to hang on to them a bit, as i will never see another set again. Last manufactured in 92' and only a couple sets were made. They are rays/volks 5/4s'
|
One set for street tires, one set for track tires, sounds good to me.
How wide are they? What offset? Just curious, don't intend on finding some for myself. Nice clean build though, keep it simple. Don't need any internals for your power levels, you are good to go. People here will tell you to build this build that, for low 200's all you need is a good tune and you will be reliable. But do consider up-sizing your DP, that will show you positive results. |

Exactly. I plan to get maybe some Hoosiers for the rays/volks which weight -12lbs. they are 15"s and 7" wide with a pretty high offset. Im not 100% sure on the actual offset numbers. As far as the DP goes i plan on making another larger one this winter when i pull the motor for the clutch, and re-gasketing. I want to make between 200-225@ max for now. |

So i finally started some winter projects with the car. A few of witch i have been procrastinating on for a while, but hey the car doesnt come out at all once they put down the salts.
My clutch was slipping under boost almost all season this year pretty much since Thirdgen helped me out with injectors and a tune, and ive had one sitting in my garage for almost 2 years. I went with an exedy st. 1 clutch. They say it will hold up to 250ft. lbs of torque and i probably wont come near that until i can afford to put rods and pistons in my block. While taking the trans out which wasn't hard at all, i managed to get a bolt stuck in my flywheel. I read that these bolts can sometimes stretch and become near impossible to remove. I sent the flywheel to my buddys machine shop and no one there could even get it out. They tried everything and so did I. So now i am going to be looking for a new flywheel. I also realized that my clutch was getting soaked with oil, (rear main seal), my trans was also leaking from the trans seal, and also leaking from the tail shaft seal on the other side of trans. :vash::vash::vash::loser: I guess you will have this with a 20 year old car. I went and ordered a timing belt kit from flyin miata which comes with a ton of seals and a good water pump as well. I will also be resealing the trans bits, and clocking my turbo so that the cold side will face down, making my inter cooler piping much shorter, and giving me more space to run an intake that is further away from the manifold. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392213502 Car on stands with the trans out and on the side of the car Also found out that the rear bumper side markers fit up front and found a set at the yard for less than a dollar... Looks pretty cool in my opinion https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392213502 Man its been a while since i made any updates on here. Car is now sitting on KOni/ground controls 550F/300R https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392213502 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1392213502 |

So is it a summer fun toy or a garage queen?
I'm just busting your balls. It's your car, do what you want. It'll definitely handle better if you get a little more ride height though. |
