Howdy, I'm DJ. Bout a month ago, bought a beater 1990 Miata. My other car is an 08 GTI sitting at around 250whp.

Always wanted a Miata, finally came across one for the right price - some body damage (needs a rear QP replaced), but the top is like-new, drives great, and has been a BLAST. My VW was unregistered for a couple weeks, so I had to drive the Miata down to Georgia for a VW show. 2200 mile round trip, and she did great. This was after owning it for a week. **** it, hop in and go

On the way to the show, we did Tail of the Dragon for a few days. I used to live in NC and visited the Dragon often, so I'm quite familiar with the road. Hit it all the time with my GTI. The Miata is... a whole different animal out there. Probably the most fun I've had with my clothes on. Chased down a 370z.

The car came with an 8lb CM flywheel, Clutchmasters Stage 1 clutch, Racing Beat springs (uninstalled, they came in the trunk), cone filter intake, front and rear RB sway bars, head gasket and timing belt have been replaced.

The plan in the future is to sell the bags from my GTI and boost this turd. Start at ~150whp and work my way up (overall goal is 250whp, but that will take more $$ than I think on a 1.6). BEGI Shanghai-S, then add injectors, FMIC, MS, LC-1, etc. I really like the MSPNP. Is the DIYPNP any different from it? I have no fear of electronic assembly - I'm an electrical engineer with lots of SMT experience. Hoping my clutch holds up to the added power.

Now, for the part everyone loves. Pictures!

(Blue tape because we were going to a VW show - everyone blue tapes the front of their car, so I decided to blue tape lots of my car)

The GTI, cause why not (it's much better to look at):

As it sits now with a flat black bumper that I let people write on:

That's an attainable goal. Do some research to figure out everything you'll need to boost it and then watch the fs ads. Personally I'd skip the adjustable fpr and get some 550's, also the diyms and mspnp are the same as far as I know. The 1.6's are pretty stout, you can get very close to your goal or reach it on stock internals. Only thing to worry about is the gearbox (they give it up around 250whp) but a 6 speed would remedy that. Also look for a 1.8 drivetrain (axles, diff/carrier, and driveshaft) because your 1.6 setup could fall apart at any time (a friends diff exploded at stock power during an autox).

After reading the Costa Rican Trainwreck Thread, this is like McQuire's Grill Prime Rib vs cold, 4-day old Hamburger helper...

Welcome!

Looking forward to seeing how things progress on the car.

Awesome....welcome board! Nice GTi. I had a Cobalt SS before my Miata so I know the feeling of going from fail wheel drive to right wheel drive!

Appreciate the comments! I really love how the car drives... I can drive it like a total dick around curves and it doesn't come back to bite me... she just turns

This is my car on a private course modeled to look a whole lot like Tail of the Dragon.

7:26 this bike was outttttt. I usually slowed down any time I saw bikes. My passenger was acting as a spotter, he'd advise me of clear road around a bend so I could slide it a bit .

On the straighter parts he'd pull away.... but on this road, there aren't many of those . Any other road, ya, he woulda been out. He nearly lost it around one corner. It was Z weekend at the Dragon. Tried to keep up with a 300ZX TT... didn't go so well -_-

And of course... video or it didn't happen . 1:45 the car in front pulls off... I wasn't trying to get up his *** for safety reasons, but he was definitely trying hard. Only problem is the camera car can't quite keep up during the turns so you don't see how much closer I am on the exit of the turn lol. 2:48 is where the guy nearly lost it (but, again, can't see it from the car behind me). His back end got super loose, good driving on his part to recover it.

Wilkommen!

Was it SoWo you were going to? If you saw a red turbo NA there it was likely mine, driven by my VW enthusiast brother-in-law who didn't finish his Mk4 Jetta body drop in time.

Yes indeed, I was there... and I saw it. Didn't know it was turbo, I think I mostly saw it parked. Super clean, looked really nice.

Body dropping a Mk4? I think I've only ever seen that done on one Mk2.. he got a build thread for it? That sounds superbly interesting.
