Thinking about buying a '97, input?

Hello everyone, my name is Binit and I am a sophomore in college. Lately I've seen a few of the gen. one Miatas at school and they look great. Theres just something about them that I've always liked.

I found one that I like and was thinking about checking. It is a 1997 Miata M-ediiton with ~69,000 miles for $4,800. The exterior is green with a tan leather interior. The description states that it had "its gotten a new fuel pump, clutch (with hydraulics), and battery within the last 6 months. The top is showing signs of wear, but not leaking. Also it was recently painted." I thought that this was a fairly nice deal. I was planning on replacing the soft top with a hard top anyways. This will mainly be my weekend/autox car. When I go to check it out, is there anything I should be aware of?

I've read a few threads stating that the 1.6L is cheaper to mod but if you can get the 1.8L you might as well. Also the 96+ came with OBDII port, making it a hassle to work with?

Any input will be appreciated, thanks!

kinda pricey imo, but if its clean and well maintained.......do it.
1.8>1.6 no matter what anyone says. only upside to 1.6 is cheapness.
obd2 is a big downer to some, but it all depends on your state smog regulations.
check the "car buying FAQ" on m.net for a detailed list of what to look out for when buying.

welcome
