Yeah, Rev has been amazing with communication. I now have one of his hot little boxes in my hand...and it's red...which will go nicely with the big zip ties. But asking him to point out what wires to go for I think is not reasonable. I need to learn this stuff or I will not be independent with keeping the car in good order. [Skyping while track-side, "ah, hey Rev., what does this wire do?"].

Do I have permission for a build thread yet?

Did you buy it from Rev directly or is it a second hand unit? Either way, if you PM him the SN on the case he can help you out. He's a seriously great vendor.

Welcome to the forum! Its amazing how a little maintenance can really change things with a car. Sounds like you need to start a build thread :bigtu:

Yes, start a build thread. His "instructions" include all the wiring labels you will need. I think I still have a copy if you need it. (it's at home tho)

well, between the two of you that is like 30,000 posts so I think I can start a build thread.

Yeah, asking for a pin-out for the unit is not unreasonable. From there you can funger the rest of it out. I think that was the second email I sent to him after I received my unit.

o lord, I've become one of "those people" around here, haven't I?

Pinouts I can find rather easy: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-c...-ECU-Pins2.jpg

But WTF they mean is what I need help with. With the example above, is that schematic looking at the connector itself and therefore the wires coming off the plug are as indicated in the pinout? really, I think I need to take a wiring 101 course online or something.

EO2K 01-28-2015 12:45 PM

Yeah, don't assume that applies to your ECU. Rev's units are not exactly the same as what you see coming out of DIYAutoTune, et al.

What you are looking for is the pinout for the DB37 connector on your ECU, the image linked is for the OEM connector. Rev's generally uses the DB37 to handle all the additional things that were not included in the stock harness. Stuff like EBC, wideband input, aux inputs for things like flexfuel or traction control inputs, etc. This is why we recommend getting the pinout for YOUR ecu. I'd post mine but it may not be the same, because you have an MSM ;)

Correct - you're overthinking this.

Revs unit should be pnp. Meaning you simply unplug the oem plugs and plug them into his unit.

The db37 is the one that I mentioned, and revs are mostly the same so most tend to follow the wiring labels in his instructions pretty close. It's like 4-5 wires that you will need to connect and you're done. If you won't be running ebc or sequential cops its only like 2-3 wires (wideband)

also be very careful when reading MS2 instructions on the net. some applies to Rev built units some don't.

The sheet Rev will send you should have all the info you need to get the thing installed and car running...from there welcome to the world of tuning. Really easy but bloody difficult!!! (odd I know).

You should know that it is a Kiwi's fault I'm into this. I was a truck guy until in 1998 when I studied at Vic for a semester and was introduced to the whole Subaru and WRC thing ;) (oh, and rugby, too). In 2003 got a WRX and now with two turbo Subarus in my garage as dailys I now have this turbo Miata thing...

But you are correct, the Rev. directions are very detailed and I think once I learn some more basic information it will all come together. but thanks for the heads up about the variations in pin-out. I will be running EBC and a new IAT sensor along with the wideband. As long as I don't fry anything I can likely get away with a little trial and error.

Just painted the raw metal last night for the race seat/harness anchor points so will run the wideband line through the trans tunnel soon and then wrap back up the interior. Modified the boss frog seat belt guild to work with the OE bolts and the Blackbird bar which significantly helps with belt retraction.
