Red face VA: I'm new here and about to boost my NB/ make a thread on it :)

**9/9/11 UPDATE!!** I was over oiling the turbo a bit but it was only coming out of the outlet for charge pipe and spitting on the hood. My bad for going -4 with it all. Put a shitty ebay restrictor up there for now and problem solved. Also had to re-tighten the sandwichplate adapter and got rid of that small leak. Downpipe was fabricated 2 days ago and came out amazing ( took some time since the vband adaptter pushed it out and left us very little room to make a 90. Thank god I went with 2.5 inch. Megasquirt is here and clutch. Sunday i/c piping will be fabbed. wideband and i/c are going in tonight. who wants pictures ?

**9/5/11 !! **
UPDATE* Pan tapped the other day ( on car) and was not hard at all, reached my pinky in there and got any and all filings out, so glad i did this. Got pictures too for the write up. It's about time, things started rolling on this.

And I'm not using the adapater at all. Had the studs removed and a tapped t3 flange tig welded onto the manifold. Came out very nice and I am certain I won't have too much clearance issues now.

YAY!

Rick

All about some miata action, coming from a history of many 240's boosted and na. I've had my 2000 NB since February. Bought it stock from a dealer. Few months later I lowered it on tein coils, purchases a new set of rota grid v's, and a set of ebay eyelids.

This did it for me for a while........ but I'm ready for the turbo days again. So I've pieced together a kit. I love this site and the info available. I want anyone/ everyone considering boosting your their miata (especially 99-00 models) to read up on the parts lists, prices, and alternatives. As I know now I could have done a few things differently and saved some money.
** I'll post link to said thread when I have made it within the week. Everything is being fabbed and installed this weekend**

Here's some pics of my baby Parts list/prices after photos, laugh at my mess ups please. I was going for a budget of $2,000 and rushed it.

***8/18/11 UPDATE: Sending back voodoo box tomorrow. Braineak's assembling my Megasquirt. Purchased a set of rx7 460cc injectors. Things are looking better.

Power goals are around 180whp on 7-8psi for now. Then upgrades to come in the winter.

Now I will CLEAN all this up in the "build" thread. and specify where all parts came from if anyone wants. Pretty much all parts include shipping and yeah...I could have gone a different route on some things. I'm aware, more than AWARE. haha. But hey, learning from it. Looking forward to blowing my motor up and making noise.

I was going to put in the DIY thread coming this week. Had a budget of $2,000 and went just a few over. But I know where I could have saved, I just was tired of sourcing out parts. haha. I'll edit original post to have the parts/ prices I suppose.

please post more info on this sickmiatabra. I need to keep the bugs off my bumper cap and the traditional miata bra isn't doing too good of a job.

How thick is the turbine adapter flange?

Specify on "T3 Turbo". That could not be more vague. Depending on the size you're probably going to run into shelf issues.

Measure twice!

I wish I had mores specs on the t3. The pure boredom and hours of reading online talked me into the voodoo box. I did not care for all the mess of engine management after so much researching. I'll do what I can with it.

The voodoo box / timing wheel combo is decent for a starter setup running a GT2560 or smaller with under 7psi. The only thing is, it makes fuel mileage suck, and 7psi is about all the boost you'll be able to run, and I don't think it's worth anywhere near $415. You can build a megasquirt for that much, then be able to tune timing not retard it with a notched wheel, basically do anything and run almost any injector there is.
When I first turbo'd my car I said, "I just want it to be in the 14's in the 1/4 mile and that's it." So I went with a voodoo box. It was fine and dandy until I got the itch. Next came full exhaust, clutch, MS, 460cc injectors and EBC. Then I ran in the 13's, now I want to run in the 12's. My next adventure will be 600cc injectors, a bigger turbo and an engine overhaul.
I'm not trying to be a dick, but I'm just saying...you have no idea how far this addiction is about to go. Just take a lot of advice so you don't waste your money.

Like I said (or maybe not, but am trying to say) New to all this. I'll upgrade and swap **** out when I need to. I "rushed" it. And was tired of search after search after search. Needless to say, I want to have something a lil sturdy for a brief amount of time. Then move on to the big boy stuff. I pm'd braineack(sp?) about setting up a megasquirt as I do fear for my life that the voodoo box and timing wheel won't be enough. I'm looking for useful insight. I'll also read any "fail" or "stupid" comments. Please, I know I am. I knew I should have stayed in the 240 game. JK, I love my NB

*Or I'll pay someone to setup megasquirt for my setup with a/c and all that crap. Just saying.

^^the crap adapter is 2" in height. It's cast. I know I may have some fitment issues. I couldn't source a damn t25 in my area. I have a kkk x50 eliminator off of a porsche..... that i REALLY REALLY want to use. and may be using instead after all is said and done. Just forgive me for my waste of thread................

Is it that horrible?? I understand what it does. I understand what it doesn't do. Maybe just use it till I find someone to make me a megasquirt then sell it half price??? I mean.... I just want to start somewhere.

If you were NEVER going to run more than 7psi EVER, and you wanted something sooo simple...I'd say keep the voo-doo box. However, we all know how this is going to turn out, so call FM, and get your money refunded. Be sure to tell them that you decided to go with a Megasquirt. Oh yeah...Flyin Miata LOVES megasquirts.

I respect "hate" from more experienced people in any aspect of life. Especially if it's because you see that I (or anyone) is doing something wrong or insufficiently and would like to help go a different path.

If someone can help me out on the DIY Megasquirt deal ASAP and I mean a week or 2 tops. I'll pay them reasonably. I know jack **** about assembling one even if I had clear as day instructions in front of me. And I'll send back the voodoo box the minute I receive it. WHO can help me out there??

Theres a reason the vast majority of people here use Megasquirt, if you do not want to build one yourself, Braineak sells units that he builds (quite well). The problem with your voodoo box is you can't go over 7psi with it, IMO it's overpriced and megasquirt makes it look antiquated.

You don't have to buy it as a kit, check out the "for sale" section of the forum. If you want to get a kit, diyautotune.com sells them. As to if you can have a finished unit in 2 weeks, I guess that would depend on how fast shipping is and how quickly you can assemble it.

My Megasquirt is a PNP unit and will fit your car. I don't want to get rid of it, but for the right price I guess I could. I was looking into an upgrade anyway maybe. What are you wanting to spend? My MS does it all, and even has EBC.
