WARNING: Noob on premises

Hi there names Albert or Al for short your preference is fine. Live in NC in the crazy city of Asheville. Been working on a 2000 NB1 ls model for a little bit now and decided upon turbo for forced induction. decided on this forum due to the vast amount of collected knowledge that is on here from the great many members. Hoping to find more people who understand the joy of this car for starters lol and hopefully some insight and of course get the occasional part here and there. hope to talk to yall :noob:

Welcome Al. What are your goals for the car? Track, autoX, not drift, street scene?

Please posts some pics.

You're in the right place for the love of Miata.

My goal is circuit fun. Since I live in NC near the blue ridge parkway i like the curves. My idea at the moment is eventually turbo charged power for the girl sadly no pictures of her I'm a young gun who doesn't even own a camera lol but will get one soon so that i can get some up. still learning all the works to a forum so please excuse my rather "slow" approach to everything. My biggest question is how i should go about the build?? I understand the basics from helping to build Hondas (sucks i know) in FL. Suspension work i've got a pretty good idea on but as far as a good well balanced engine build well i fear that i may over do the work that I should. I'll be happy to list parts ideas upon request and see what you guys think is worth the investment and what isn't. biggest issue here is emissions laws freaking hate the crap out of 'em but no choice in the matter. Other than that the basic details of the NB is stock except for no back brakes lol no ebrake haha and a fabbed "cold air" intake. Oh and a gutted cat which I have to either trick the O2 sensor to think its there or buy one which is in my opinion not what i should do. any more questions please feel free.

You can tell them your parts ideas, but most likely they will laugh and ridicule you. Keep them a secret for now. Read as many of the build threads as you can, learn from them what works and what doesn't work.

Paragraphs. They're your friend.

And like Mr. Nuge said... Read build threads. Then read some more. Then some more. Research vendors. Read some note build threads.

Do NOT start a thread with your own parts list til you've read a few threads.

Do NOT start a thread saying you have fifteen cents and want to turbo your car so should you go BEGi or FM?????

Where in FL?

Start your build with a wideband and an ecu. If you can learn to manage it yourself you will be worlds ahead of anything you want to do.

Definitely good advise there. It's a lot more forgiving to learn to tune a naturally aspirated car. You'll learn a ton and pick up a few horsepower in the process. Once you've got a good grasp on what you're doing it really simplifies adding forced induction to the car.

thanks for the advice guys really a good heads up. ive been reading a few of the build threads here and grabbing ideas along the way. I used to live near central florida orlando area but was a while ago. the biggest thing ill start with is the ecu. my question for that is what kind of programs and or tools will i need to start learning how to tune? I was looking into megasquirt ecu and into aem eugo wideband for those two parts. Still unsure on what i need to begin to tune myself besides like a laptop?? Other than that i'm in the dark about it.
