First off, if it is truly for 5-6 months don't bother turboing the 1.6. It won't be done and dialed in within 6 months. Just wait the 5-6 months, do the 1.8 swap and then turbo.

If you want to DO something, which I completely understand, start with the 1.8 swap (FM has a convenient "swap" kit with the bits needed to go from 1.6 to 1.8) and feel free to install the clutch at the same time. Then go ahead and do the MS. Take the time to learn tuning the car while N/A while you acquire the DIY turbo parts.

Then, when it's time to turbo the car you are halfway there with MS tuning experience plus you eliminated another variable. Feel free to mix in the suspension and wheel stuff whenever time and $ allows.

This is the least expensive route. You will find deals and learn what is a bargain and what isn't while acquiring parts plus you won't end up buying parts twice. It's also the least painful and quickest route as there is no back-tracking.

And, the most common performance wheel size is 15x8 with a +35 (or 36?) backspacing. 949racing 6UL or their knockoffs.

Stop being assholes in the meet and greet to people who don't deserve it. At least this dude is smart enough to want to go with a 1.8L.

Don't bother with the 1.6L, get it out ASAP and focus on the 1.8L. If you want to mod the car in the meantime, focus on supporting mods or gather parts like: a radiator, intercooler, injectors, ECU, suspension, etc. etc.

I was going to practice tuning on the 1.6 seeing as how this will be my first e85 car. I seem to find them very cheap, so I figured if I pop one or two it wont be a big deal. haha

get the ECU and learn it while you build the 1.8L. there's no point on engine modding a 1.6L if a 1.8L is in works--waste of time and money.

Question, I didn't see anything about power goals except that you were looking at a SR20 T25. What is your end-game power goal? For 200hp, you can swap in a stock 1.8 and go from there.

If you want more than that, it DEFINITELY is not worth turboing your 1.6, as there will be very little overlap between a 200hp 1.6 and a built-engine 1.8 setup.

What I was trying to say is that you should read some threads in the build threads section. We can tell you step by step what you should do, but you shouldn't trust random people on the internet. So it's best to go read up on what other people have done, and how that worked for them.

Yah I HAD a power goal of like 170-200 on a 1.6 then when I swapped everythign over with a built motor. I was going to push it closer to 250+ on e85

but since everyone seems to be on the same page of not messing with the 1.6 I looks like I dont have a power goal at all atm. I really wanted to turbo the 1.6 just to see if I even wanted to keep the car. But ive only got to drive it like 4 times and Im in love with the handling so keeping it doesnt seem to be a question now.

A complete but used 1.8 engine is cheaper than a 1.6 manifold. Turboing a 1.6 is stupid these days. Don't.

So I swapped a temporary 1.6 in over the holiday weekend. TOTAL pain in the ass. I think I need to find a better shell for sure. Car runs great now but I broke to many random nuts and bolts for my liking. Probably sell this car and try to find one that hasnt seen michigan winters.
