Yes, another noob post

I joined back in Nov 2009 but have been lurking

..thought I'd say Hi

I own a 1990 Spec Miata (so not turboed)

At one time I owned a 1990 supercharged Miata and a Miata that was formerly turbocharged (haha).

I've owned 6 Miata's so I think it is safe to say I am a Miata enthusiast!

fooger03 07-04-2010 09:46 AM

Welcome.

Edit location in profile.

When are you going to turbo your 90?

chris101 07-04-2010 09:51 AM

okay

I updated the location in my profile.

My 90 Spec Miata will never be turboed (then it wouldn't be a spec miata any more)

...but maybe a future Miata I buy (already did the supercharger thing so maybe in the future)

BUT the next Miata I buy will come from Phoenix, AZ (where 100% rust free really is 100% rust free!!!)

Welcome aboard! Get another Miata and do the turbo you will never regret it. Your Miata will be a completely different car. It makes it a lot more fun to drive. Post some pics of your ride.

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.

I hate how so many race photographers take photos at high shutter speeds, so the cars just look like theyre parked on the track.
But anyway, car looks nice. I always envied the great racing you spec miata guys had at every event I was in, meanwhile I usually only had a handful of cars to run with, haha.

If you stick around here, youll find yourself wnating to go turbo. At which point you will see how awesome it is.
Miatas and turbos go together like bread and butter, its too bad mazda didnt make them boosted from the beginning.

chris101 07-04-2010 02:26 PM

Yeah, I have much better photos from Sideline sports instead. I need to find them and upload them at some point!

But anyway, thanks...

Maybe one day I'll get to drive someone's Turbo Miata and want one. One of the things I hated about my former 90 supercharged miata was the useless 1st gear after the swap though.

chris101 07-05-2010 07:40 AM

new to posting on this forum anyway ;)

lordrigamus 07-05-2010 10:13 AM

Damn, that's a bummer dude. She looked good before the crack up. Any plans on fixing it up or are you going to leave the war wounds for character?

chris101 07-05-2010 10:18 AM

war wounds are staying especially since the car still passes tech and the 50/50 rule still applies (looks good going 50mph from 50feet away)

besides, murphy's law dictates that if I replace that front fender, the next race it gets banged up again anyway.

The fender will have to get a lot worse before I break down and replace it ;)

Battle scars FTW! Do you have a home track?

Just because of location, I probably have the most track time at Autobahn recently (over the past 3-4 years since they opened the track -- and no I am not a member there)

But my favorite track so far is Grattan

So far I've driven the following tracks:

Roebling Road, Nelsen Ledges, Mid-Ohio, Waterford Hills, Grattan, Gingerman, Putnam, Autoban (north, south and full), Blackhawk, Gateway, Milwaukee Mile and Road America. I have a goal of 1 new track per year (this year was Gateway).

Huh, I love SMs. Do you enjoy running it in ITA, as well: pros/cons?

chris101 07-06-2010 12:37 PM

Running ITA with an SM has its advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages:

- Here in our area is a race series run by a group called Midwest Council and they hold an event each month between April and October. If you are signed up for 1 race, you get to sign up for the 2nd race the same day for only $100 more (so you get more racing the same weekend day for cheap!)

- You get exposure to cars that are faster in the straights and it helps hone your skills on passing them in the corners (because many of those same ITA cars are not as fast as an SM in the corners)

- It is always nice to have another option available to run w2w as racing is fun to do!

Disadvantages:

- If you are in to try to win points or contingency, you aren't as competitive as an ITA only Miata and won't have as much of a chance to get a podium finish.

- It can be very frustrating passing an ITA car that isn't a Miata in corners only to be passed again in every long straight end resulting in what feels like a long 30 minutes of cat -n-mouse.

jbrown7815 07-06-2010 12:44 PM

So do you actually have sponsors? (based on decals)

chris101 07-06-2010 12:48 PM

Nope! No sponsors

NADA, ZILCH

The reason for the 'stickers' are for contingency.

For example, the Toyo stickers are required for if you place 1st through 5th and win 'toyo dollars' towards toyo tires. (you are required to have the 4 stickers to be eligible to win IF you win).

The 'clutch' one was a contingency for last year that isn't around this year and I've been lazy about removing those stickers but need to.

The Hawk stickers are for if you win 1st or 2nd place and get 'hawk bucks' ($50 off hawk pads for 1st place and $25 off Hawk pads for 2nd place)

the MAZDA stickers for for MAZDASPEED program that I am a member of (meaning I pay dealer cost price for any/all Mazda parts) -- I only have to complete 2 races a year and submit results to stay a current mazdaspeed program member.

NASA requires their own Stickers as does Midwest council so I think I accounted for all my stickers at this point.
