'00 1.8 european Miata - MS2 assembly
This is my report of an MS2 assembly.
I have bought also the SEQMOD module for full sequential injection. I have all I need to start http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/4102/p1050038mod.jpg Partially done http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/5550/p1050040mod.jpg Mainboard done, except the voltage regulator in the proto area that is work in progress. I cannot find 3K, 30K and 48.7K 1% I have found 2.7 and 3.3K, 33K and 47K. http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/2192/p1050043mod.jpg http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/3725/p1050046mod.jpg |
Is this the correct position fot the SEQMOD?

This is what is left unmounted and I know that it's needed :
-position and shunt jumpers -wire -screws for case -D-sub connector Hood This is what is left of the kit, unmounted, and I want to be sure that is not needed, give me your opinion : -1 extra diode -some 100ohm pullups resistors -5 1K pullups resistors -1 optional R20 51K resistor -3 4670ohm pullups resistors -optional R39 variable resistor -Mica for Q17 (I really don't know what it is) -some washers |

I noticed the MICA in the last few kits I purchased that recieved the v1.5b. What's the through behind it? I didn't think the pads were grounded.

Thanks guys.
I have a question : is the european pinout = to the USDM pinout? Reverant pointed me on the fuel pump pin, but he doesn't remember exactly where it must go. And what about other pins? |
Other pins are fine. I've built a few units for european cars, fully equiped with A/C etc, and none had any problems.
|
Thanks a lot. Where the fuel pump pins is on EUDM cars? I only have this diagram, but it's from an USDM manual
http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/4298/fuelpump.th.png Uploaded with ImageShack.us |
3R or 3P.
|
I have finished now to make all the "edge pin connection" except fuel pump. I am a bit confused about "Pull Ups" and "I/O circuits", maybe I'm only very tired.
Can someone explain these simple? |
fuel pump is 3P on euro cars.
|
Thanks, connected.
I need help to find PA0 on mainboard to activate relay1 for radiator FAN. Ins't it pin 1 from J1 that goes direct to the processor? |
It's in the spare I/O header in the top/middle of the board.
|
Found and connected.
Now I'm loading the firmware. The base map that I have downloaded use MS2/Extra 3.0.3 - 20090912, I must install these FW (that I can not find) or the 3.0.3 20100522 is ok? I'm Trying with 20100522...finger crossed :-) |
Firmware flashed.
Now when I try to open the MSQ tunerstudio give me this error : <<cannot find the controller definition file (ini, ecu) for signature:MS2 Extra Rel 3.0.3h>> and ask me to select the appropriate configuration file. What's wrong? |
Really can't find the 20090912 firmware in MSextra forum...is this the problem?
|
why arent you using 3.1.1?
|
I have used the last firmware included in the package of DIYPNP website.
But the base map for this specific application is based on an old firmware, that I cannot find http://www.diyautotune.com/diypnp/ap...0-18bp-mt.html Is this the reason for the strange error that tunerstudio give me? |
so go to project properties and point it to the directly of that particular firmware .ini file.

http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/files/alpha/ In the ecu now I have 3.0.3s...I have to upload the 20090912 into the ecu? |
just d/l the files and point TS to it.
|
Thanks mate, done, but tunerstudio find a signature firmware mismatch, and ask me if I want to update ini or connect anyway...
"Project sign 3.0.3h Controller sign 3.0.3s Isn't raccomended to connect etc. etc." Shall I connect anyway? I can upload 2090912 firnware in the ECU if this is the correct procedure. |
sounds like you still didn't source the correct firmware locally.
try this one ms2extra_alpha_303s_20100329.zip |
No, there wasn't the correct firmware loaded into the ecu.
Now I have loaded the 3.0.3h, and the base map works. But the car want start. Not a sign or a "pop", nothing. I have spark and also fuel (a lot of fuel smell after some starting attempt). The base map http://www.diyautotune.com/diypnp/ap...00-18bp-mt.zip is for a Jackson supercharger and 330 injectors, and this is a NA car with stock injectors, but no sign of life is strange. I have tried the base map with from 33ms to 20ms cranking. I have tried to invert coils. Nothing changes. |

Someone can give me the injector charateristic (including ReqFuel) of STOCK fuel injectors of a '00 1.8L Miata?
|
Any luck getting the car to start? I have a 1999 and the same DIYPNP. I just finished the jumpers last night and I will load the firmware on today. If you find a map that works could you post it?
|
Today I have the chance to retest the ecu on the car.
I don't know why but something changed from the last time I try the ecu on the car : after the first two startup tests the ecu show me a config error (with rpm to 65535 and no fuel pump). I have reloaded the base map a lot of times but tunerstudio show me 8 warnings that before than it never showed me. Anyway, I have redownloaded the base map from diyautotune and then into the ecu, only 5 warnings and no config error!!!! OOOOKKK....rescaled and tweaked the reqfuel for OEM injectors instead of the 330cc of the base map, and the car start!!!!! I have low idle, no idle control (IACstep is a fixed value of 97), and as soon as i touch the throttle the engine die. Also O2, oem narrowband sensor, is a fixed value of 0.170! |

Attached the warnings, and a datalog of some startings of the car
|
Maybe a stupid question : When I open the project I have to point the ms2extra or us2extra firmware?

I had success getting the car start, but it has only a good idle, nothing else... Batch inj, MAP multiply OFF, req fuel 15ms, massive start enrichment and leaned VE map at idle. How have you solved the alternator voltage regulator problem? |
I used a diagram off this website, here is the link: https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...ht=1999+diypnp
I purchased all the components from mouser, and have all the part numbers so PM me if you would like them. Alternatively; I ordered enough to do 3 alternator circuits in case I messed up, but I got it on the first try, so I can send you the components or wire it up on a spare circuit board i have and mail it to you so you will just have to connect three wires. (just pay shipping and parts, I will put it together for free!) PM for the built circuit as well. I was able to get my car running pretty well, but I didn't have a wideband O2 sensor at the time, so it could use some tweaking. If you would like me to send you the map I would be more than happy to. PM for the maps and settings. |
Thanks, my main problem is that I haven't found the 48.7K resistor and other precision components, so the alternator circuit doesn't work, and I can only do few minutes of tuning on battery.
I'll send you a PM ;-) |
