1.6 to 1.8 swap

DEAR SIRS,

I HAVE TEN MILLION ($10,000,000) US BUT NEED YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION TO...

I mean. I've been searching like heck on this, is there any handy-dandy posts with all of the information I would need to wire in the 1.8 IACV sensor? As well as any other electrical gotchas?

Thank you in advance - I'm getting excited to finally get such fancy things as a VTPS now!

What computer are you running?

blaen99 03-11-2012 12:17 PM

Ms2.

Yes, wire it in or get an adapter for the 1.6 t-body. I cut the clippy on mine and zip-tied it in place. If you wait a couple months I'll send you my 1.8 pigtail when I swap the VVT engine.

On my MSpnp I don't run a TPS sensor and never really needed to, even when I had AC. I have no desire to add it.

Thanks for the offer, Hustly, it's appreciated. I've got a 1.8 pigtail though!

I've managed to dig up Joe's awesome post for the TPS end, but need to figure out CAS and IACV wiring now.

CAS and IACV wiring are the last things on The List for me, currently prepping the 1.8 to swap, just need to get the pigtails figured out.

Hell, while I have your attention Hustly, do you think it's worth leaving the stock water-oil cooler in, or should I ditch that SOB?

Google searching reveals posts on m.net claiming the 94 CAS is compatible with the 90-93 CAS via m.net posts on the stock ECU - but I hate using m.net sources when I cannot find any mt.net sources to verify some of their rather wild claims. Is this also true on the Megasquirt and is all I have to worry about the IACV?

As far as the cas goes, Im fairly certain that you are fine. If I remember correctly, there is a later model cas in my car at the moment, and im on the stock ecu. running ms1/2/3 whatever shouldnt be an issue as they all run the same wheel setup.

Leave the stock oil cooler in unless you are getting an external oil cooler.

Cas wiring is easy, since all you need to do is lengthen it, cut it with whatever length pigtail you feel comfortable with, lets say 3-4 inches, and add whatever length of wire you need to reach the exhaust cam. All you need to do is match the red wire to red, white to white and so on, I dont know the actual colors, but you get the idea.

As far as the iacv, I have no clue. Im in for results.

Sweet, TPS, CAS, and all the rest of the wiring is out of the way then. It's only down to the IACV wiring, which we'll see how it works out.

I just completed this swap in my 90 chassis (but it was an automatic so it has some minor wiring differences). 96 engine and TB/IACV.

The IACV uses the same color wires on the 96 as the 90. I literally matched them up and worked fine. The issue I'm having is finding out %100 which frequency to run the valve at, some posts say in the 160's (for 1.6) others at 384. Either frequency I hear some noise from the valve, just more noticeable when it's at the lower setting.

My 96 motor had a different CAS and uses a trigger wheel sensor on the front of the crank. The 1.6 doesn't have the sensor on the crank. what I found out is that in 96 and 97 Mazda changed the CAS design.

The 90-93 CAS does both cam and crank signals, where as the 96/97 does Cam and the sensor on the crank handles the crank signals.

My apologies on the bad spelling and grammar. I got my education from the California public school system.
