1.6 OEM ecu timing map?

I need my car to pass emissions. It was extremely close but failed. I want to use the oem timing map so it runs as close to stock as possible. The waste gate is all the way open so it doesn't boost on the rollers during testing.

I found this on miata.net but is that all the oem ecu does? It's just straight across like this? It's not a tps x rpm or airflow x rpm map?

here are DIY autotunes base maps for the first gen pnp, works with ms1 as well.

Yeah, but he's trying to pass emissions.

Those values look like free revving, no load spark numbers taken by marking the damper and standing next to a car with a timing light taking notes. You are correct in assuming there should be more data points. It would be best determined on a load bearing dyno at various loads, but I am not personally aware of the location of the info you seek. It is probably out there though.

Post your emissions results. Then we can help figure out what you need to change.

the stock timing map will only work well for you if you have stock components and 87 octane.

the above chart would only be plugged into the ~30kPa row, so you're missing a ---- ton of data points.

Hydrocarbons (HC) Actual 1.09, Limit 1.00 Failed
Carbon Monoxide (CO) Actual 3.08, Limit12.00 pass
Oxides of Nitrogen (NOX) Actual 2.81, Limit 2.50 Failed

and what was the AFR when they tested? you target and see 14.7:1 in cruise areas right?

Cookie Monster 07-02-2012 01:39 PM

Not this time. A couple years ago it was on target but that's because I tuned it the day I brought it to emissions. My megasquirt has never strived to hit the 14.7 afr, I have no idea why. It's really hot in az right now about 110* and the MS makes the car run leaner in the heat and then I put my cat back on for emissions and now it's super lean I have no idea why that happened. It's idling 19.00 afr and 16.00 cruise. I figured I would try my luck at emissions. A couple years ago even though the afr was close to 14.7 I had to go to emissions 6 times tuning before each time to get it to pass. I'm using the same map I have now.

Maybe my wideband 02 sensor crapped out but it was fine before I put the cat back on. idk

Sokool 07-02-2012 02:12 PM

Running so lean is whh your NOX is so high. It will probably pull your HC down the little it needs just getting it to run stoich.

sixshooter 07-02-2012 03:46 PM

How the hell are you idling at 19afr? I don't think a car would stay running, no I'm sure it wouldn't.

When did you last perform a free air calibration?

Cookie Monster 07-02-2012 03:52 PM

Beats me. I now it can run pretty lean though. My old nissan sr20ve used to idle at 22 that was on the dyno stock. It passed emissions with flying colors too. The dyno guy said it's okay but only for idle. I think nissan did that so the cat stays hot at idle.

Braineack 07-02-2012 03:53 PM

there's no way.

Cookie Monster 07-02-2012 03:53 PM

So how do I get MS to keep it near 14.7 afr?

Braineack 07-02-2012 03:55 PM

tell it to?

Cookie Monster 07-02-2012 03:57 PM

Well that's what it said on the dyno but who cares about that crappy old nissan I don't even have it anymore lol.

Sixshooter I don't know what a free air calibration is so probably never.

Cookie Monster 07-02-2012 04:10 PM

Braineack, It says in AFR targets for VE table 1 (AFR) Everything in the cruise area is 1.47 It wouldn't let me adjust over 5.0 so I guess that 1.47 really means 14.7?

In Lambda sensor target window it says

Change EGO limit above (KPA) 140

Change EGO limit to +-0

8x8 afr target tables

For VE table 1 on

Does that look right?

sixshooter 07-02-2012 05:44 PM

What brand wideband do you have? Innovate LC-1 perhaps? If so, download the instructions for the unit and calibrate the sensor. Without calibrating it, the numbers you are seeing mean nothing because they aren't accurate. After calibrating the sensor it is possible to tune your car to pass emissions. Until then, you don't have the right tools to do it.

Read the destructions.

Calibrating the sensor is easy but involves unscrewing it from the exhaust for a few minutes and taking it out of the pipe. People who value accuracy of their widebands do this every so often, especially if they think they might be reading wrong.

Techsalvager 07-02-2012 06:13 PM

if the afr taget table is set as lambda you want lambda = 1 to be 14.7
post up a datalog and the tune file.

If you are idling at 19:1 afr it could be because you have an exhaust leak and its reading some of the air from that leak.

I'm using an AEM wideband.

That's a good point, I thought it sounded different but I haven't been driving the car much lately. I'll check for an exhaust leak.

I'll see if I can get a datalog tomorrow
