Fixed! 1.6 w. DIYAutotune MS1 extra start issues

Hey

I really need some assistance with this.. I bought the MS1 prebuilt by DYI and did the DYI mods for CAS and ignition. I actually had it started on the first try, had it running up to standard temp, but it really ran like a POS. Realized I had only half RPM on Megatune compared to car tach, so I switched primary and sec tach inputs. Now it reads about 200 RPM at cranking, but it wont start! What I do is:

Set Lambda to Standard NB and temp to F to accept the DIY No MAF .msq file.
Open the .msq and burn it to MS.
Set lambda back to LS1 WB and temps to C to match my environment.
Req fuel is set to 13.5.
Check the inverted spark is set to NO.
Crank, and it occasionally catches for a revolution or two, but never starts. Sometimes it pops in the intake, and if I run flood clear, it may pop in the exhaust. Pulled a plug, and it looks dry, a bit black but I guess thats from my initial startup.

I´ve tried req_fuel values from 9 to 18 without any success. I have stock 1.6 injectors in. I also have the greddy fpr but that shouldnt affect anything on startup I belive.

Obvioulsy I'm doing to little or too much of something, but what??

I have MAP, tach, Coolant temp and TPS reading on the laptop.

The standard problem seems to be burned out ignitors, they are not warm by themselfes but the nuts that holds it down feels pretty hot. Could that be it after all?

Sounds like somethings off with the ignition settings or wiring..

Have you checked to see if your getting spark on all 4 cylinders?

Dow.tom 09-01-2007 03:21 PM

did you remove coil when burning?

magnamx-5 09-01-2007 03:50 PM

Yes did you unplug the ignitors when you flashed the program.

Hakan 09-01-2007 06:39 PM

Yes I did unplug the ignitors when I burned the extra firmware. I guess I should verify spark on each plug.

yep

If you check for spark and dont have it.. make sure your wiring is good and you have it wired correctly and to the right pins..

Also double check the board for any messy/incorrect soldering

Just an FYI I'm watching this thread-- but it looks like you guys are on the right track... I'll subscribe so I get updates and chime in when needed...

Thanks Jerry.

I had some help by my friend the key-turner today and realized I only have spark on 1-4, and not 2-3. Triple checked cabling and that was fine. Opened the MS box...

Look at that! I had soldered to negative side of D15 instead of D16. I wonder if that had anything to do with it... :td:

Let's fix that and I should be on my way. I'll report back.

That would do it ;)

You're on your way man!

Just FYI (since you found another bigger issue already), I don't think REQ_FUEL comes into play during cranking. Cranking fueling is defined by the cranking pulse widths table, expressed in raw millisecond values. Unless I'm missing something.

That's correct-- req_fuel comes into play immediately after the MS exits cranking mode and enter run mode, which is defined by the cranking RPM. Generally under 300rpm is cranking speed, above that is considered running.

Yay! It´s purring now! Havent had time to work with it, but after fixing the above mentioned problem its all ok. Thanks for your help.

Now I have to learn about logging =P Fun fun!

That's great man!

ALT-L then ENTER to start logging.

ALT > F > L > O are the hotkeys to stop logging.

Open the logfile in MegaLogViewer and dig in!
