1.6l ms3 spark cut at 1800rpm

2 Attachment(s)
As the title says I'm having issues with spark cut at 1800rpm. It starts and idles fine but when throttle is increased to 1800rpm the tach jumps around. I tried the set igntion to 10 degrees and adjust the spark latency while using a timing light method to no avail. As far as I can tell there aren't any other factors that would cause spark to cut this early is the rev range. Attached is the .msq.

Setup:
1.6
ms3
m45 supercharger
stock coils
afm removed

I am a noob so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

did you tune r56 r52 and r11?

Ben 02-25-2015 11:50 AM

A datalog may have been helpful, but barring that, I would venture that your ignitor is failing and needs to be replaced.

All of the resistor pots were tuned in according to the west field manual. See attached datalog.

Also the ignitor was working fine last week before ms3 so unless something ruined it during first startup I would venture to say its still okay.

aidandj 02-25-2015 04:22 PM

Ignitor could have been fried. Did you unplug it when first flashing firmware and stuff?

acedeuce802 02-25-2015 04:33 PM

The firmware was flashed outside of the vehicle while powered by a JimStim. The MS3 was plugged in at first with a map configured for a '99 (but not attempted to start), then the 1.6 base map was flashed before first start.

For those of you who don't know, Adam is helping me work on this, hence his response to the previous question.

Braineack 02-26-2015 09:55 AM

I dont see anything glaring in the log (looking at raw data). Do you have rev limiter by temp turned on?

aidandj 02-26-2015 09:56 AM

I checked his msq and he doesn't.

Braineack 02-26-2015 09:59 AM

I glanced at the msq yesterday and didnt really notice anything.

the Req-fuel is a lot higher than normal and 5.0 dwell on the stock ignitor is also high.

rollie 02-26-2015 10:27 AM

Could the higher dwell time have fried the igniter? What is an average value for that?

rollie 02-26-2015 10:35 AM

Also this seems like a stupid question but is the igniter supposed to be mounted on the frame for a ground? Since I redid my harness it's floating under the dash.

Braineack 02-26-2015 10:39 AM

for a stock ignitor, i believe i use 3.5ms @ 13.2v.

I don't believe the ignitor grounds itself, so no.

rollie 02-26-2015 10:42 AM

I'll try adjusting that and readjusting the pots. If that doesn't work I'm gonna try to pick up a spare igniter today.

Braineack 02-26-2015 10:45 AM

that log doesnt show any sync loss. and easy enough to do a composite log to see if youre dropping the crank or cam signals.

rollie 02-26-2015 10:48 AM

So you don't think it's the igniter? I'll grab another log at lunch and post it up.

Attached is the new composite log with the igniter dwell down to 3.5ms. Changing the dwell had a positive effect on the bouncing revs but the car still won't rev over 2k.

Ben 02-26-2015 02:08 PM

I would venture that your ignitor is failing and needs to be replaced.

rollie 02-26-2015 03:53 PM

I take it thats a common symptom of that failing? Looks like its time to go LS Coils...
