Default MS2 upgraded from MS1 no RPM 4+1 CAS

I have a friends MS1 here that I upgraded to MS2 and did all the mods on the wiki.
http://www.boostedmiata.com/gallery2..._0003_mods.jpg

its using this style 4+1 CAS from a FWD BP05:

im using a PnP style standalone jumper harness that ive double triple checked.

the ignition setting are set to CAS 4+1, falling edge, d14 is spark, 2nd trigger on JS10

ISSUE
i get a 200RPM spike once in awhile from it but otherwise no RPM,

multimeter shows a fluctuation from 0 to 11v during cranking

diagnostics in TS is greyed out, I have no clue why.

I dont know the needed trigger angle but 50 deg should be close to correct.

any ideas?

Update TunerStudio. Then diagnostics will be available again, and you will know what it s wrong.

so thinking noise might be an issue on the harness. I used some 2 pair 16ga foil shielded wire and bypassed the stock harness for the crank and cam signals and no change.

even seen reverant's posts about a 2nd opto circiut being needed on his builds, think this is the issue?

im leaning towards installing a 2nd 4n25 on the board but this still leaving the noisy signal on the primary input..

any suggestions for that?

2nd 4n25 from the mse manual will be added like so:

and since im sure someone else will need it, here is the datasheet for the 4n25 with the pin number in it:

There is no cam signal at all from what I see. Double check your wiring, circuits, etc. A scope would help here.

on the new log? or both?

TS's logger confuses me.. i assume the "flags" represent it seeing the signal change state?

this is the 3rd time ive needed a scope in the past 6 months, guess its time to just buy one

The blue trace is the crank signal; there should have been a green trace as well, which would have been the cam signal. It is missing, so the red trace on the bottom suggests that there errors (specifically, there crank pulses but there were no cam pulses).

ha, so my jumper harness was the cause of no cam signal after the opto install... these things do not like to be uninstalled/reinstall 60 times a month

I have 257 cranking rpm's now

anyone have one of the newer style CAS's and can tell me the angle between main and return?

if not i guess ill have to do it the hard way

Shouldn't you be using the 4g63 decoder with a BP CAS?

this is for a FWD BP which has a single coil and a distributor as well as our CAS only has one tooth on the 2nd wheel as apposed to two like the 4G63.

otherwise they are identical to the (im guessing at the exact years here) 96 97 miata and later model DSM CAS's

the car is running decently now lets hope it the does the same on his later this week
