Default Roadster turbo with reverant basic ms2 needs help

Hi everyone, I have been building a turbo roadster for the last few weeks.

Honda b16 manifold adapted to td04l and 1.6 miata

Evo4 fmic

Modded knuckles

Originally i intended on running a ghetto 5psi setup, this was until i was offered a cheap unused reverant basic MS2.

I have used megasquirt in the past but want to ask some questions before i get stuck in. I have a tuner that can take over from me once i have the car running reasonably well.

My setup at the moment is:
1990 eunos roadster 1.6
Td04l
homemade manifold
turbosmart external wastegate with 5psi, 10psi or 14psi spring
255 walbro fuel pump
evo 4 intercooler
aluminium uprated radiator
Adjustable fpr @5bar
boost gauge and egt gauge

in addition to these mods i also have here ready to fit:
Yellow rx8 injectors
innovate lc-1 wideband

Some questions:

1.I think i understand what needs doing to the fuel pump relay to make it run. I guess i can look at the relay and wire it so that the MS2 earths it out and makes it switch?

2.I also think i understand the IAT wiring. I take a GM IAT and fit it into the intake before the TB then connect its wires to the relevant pins on the AFM plug?

3.Do i need to unplug my tps with this ecu?

4.Iam not sure what i should be connecting the 6 wires coming from the DB plug at the rear of the ecu, can anyone shed any light on this for me?

5.Where can i find the information, so that i can select the correct firmware in tunerstudio?

Thanks in advance to anyone that help me out. I have emailed reverant, but havent had a response yet.
Kevin

You may be able to email Reverant and get the instructions for setting up a Basic MS2. IIRC it covers most of your questions.

I'll see if I can dig mine up.

Found it in my e-mails. What's your e-mail? I'll just attach it.

Edit: Actually I just attached it to this post.

Straight away upon reading the instructions iam now confused :/

What is the harness adaptor? the ecu i have just has the yellow plugs, where the loom plugs in and the db37 out of the back.

Am i missing some loom that fits between the ecu and the stock loom?

I need to find the correct .ini file, for tunerstudio, for my ecu. I guess this can only come from reverant?

Thanks
Kev

If it has Reverant's custom firmware on it, you must get the ini he supplies.

Reverant has fully supported me with a second-hand MS3-Basic.

I believe Ben is right that the MS2 uses custom FW.

As an aside, the MS3-Basic uses standard FW. I am running 1.2.4, and others have gone to 1.3.X.

Oh, and you won't be ready for any demos.
1) Install MS and WB02 and tune MS
2) Change Injectors and verify / adjust tune
3) Add turbo and tune

Read about TPS and MS

Thanks for all of your help guys.

I managed to get the ini from reverant. He still didn't reply to my original questions though. However the instructions have pretty much explained everything to me.

My next problem is trying to get the megasquirt, tuner studio and my windows8 laptop to connect together. I don't think I can get the relevant drivers for my cable.

Is megasquirt really that bad, that a tuner won't be able to tune it within 2 weeks on a rolling road? If I have to I will run stock injectors and 5psi. If I get really desperate I'll convert back to NA a couple days before the demo.

Apart from setting base timing, Iam now ready to fire it up

I was thinking the demo was sooner. Missed the 2 week window. Still, I took months to get to a level of understanding to turbo my car and not fear I'd blow it up. But this was my first experience.

I have managed to get my car running pretty well. I have fitted a Nissan k11 tps and a Nissan iat. I have connected the lc-1 but I haven't calibrated it yet, not sure how so I will have to read an instruction manual.

I have also fitted some yellow rx8 420s and altered my req fuel settings. Originally it was set at 14.1, after running the calculator I have a figure of 6.4, the car was very lean. For now Iam running req fuel @ 8.0 so that I can move it about and test a few different things. I'll set the req at 6.4 when I get to the dyno and let the man sort it out for me

Tomorrow i will be fitting a paddle clutch and 1.8 diff, shafts and prop. Iam looking forward to the rolling road session

I need to fit a new water pump and alter the cold side ic pipe before it gets tuned. I should have time to get it all sorted.

I do have 2 mystery wires from the ms db connector.
A green wire, I believe this is boost control?
An orange wire, no idea.
I have emailed rev, but alas, no reply.

Green is boost control, yah, Orange is a spare programmable output.
Also I'd leave your req. fuel at 6.4 (or whatever the calculator tells you). Bump your fuel map up if its going lean, and let VEAL get everything sorted from there.

thanks, i took your advice and set the req fuel correctly. id didnt alter the maps at all, but i did calibrate my wideband and do a few other bits and pieces. it kinda runs ok but today rev kinda sent me a modded set of maps that should suit my requirements better. I will try them out tomorrow, but iam mostly leaving it alone because it will be getting tuned on tuesday and i dont want to make more work for the rolling road guy.

It does sound fairly brutal at 14psi with an external wastegate

The engine smokes badly though, so i intend on building a new engine after the drift demo. Im not sure whether to build a 1.6 or too use a 1.8 sport engine, as my base. My missus and I will be swapping daily drivers soon and i will be having her mk2 1,8is. It runs out of mot soon and i may just break it for spares.

I haven't driven it. It's up on stands in my garage. It doesn't cold start and I asked my missus to keep it running whilst I was tinkering. She accidentally gave it too much and the wastegate opened lol. I didn't mind, it's only a toy

It runs rich though, so it's kinda safe at the moment

I tried to load up the new map but got a bunch of errors :(

I think ill wait until rolling road day now because i have a few jobs to do on the car. Things like fitting a new water pump :/

Here are some pics of the errors screen and the new map.
