94 Megasquirt PNP 2 idle issues

Okay, so I've read a lot and barely have anytime to go over and check things. Anyone with similar experiences please chime in. Got my MSPNP 2 new a few days ago. Installed exactly as instructed. Set up Fix Idle like told to at 10* Checked timing and it's relatively at 10* Starts up and Tuner on laptop everything connects and plays.

Car: 94 1.8L Miata all Stock OEM.

Problem: Idles above 1000 for about 5-7 seconds then jumps down to 400 and stays very low and sputters. Also my stock Cluster RPM Tach is dead?

Tried starting over by re up loading the 94 base map but still does the same. Afraid of the situation I unhooked the MSPNP 2. I hooked back on the OEM Ecu and everything is fine again. Any suggestions? :noob:

Your tune needs work.

Could be any of 100 things. Post up your map, maybe we can look/help.

Will post ASAP. I work heavy hours. Any notable tuners in sacramento ca? Willing to just pay and hopefully get this over with.

If you are using the base map supplied from DIY Autotune, then you are using "PWM Warmup" idle algorithm. You most likely need to increase the duty % for the IAC valve.

Startup/Idle ->PWM Idle Duty Cycle. Here you enter "Idle PW" values for the various temps. Once you get the idle where you want it, turn on the lights, fan on high, etc. to make sure you are supplying enough air for the engine to handle the extra load of accessories.

Hope this helps.

Did what you suggested and it idles properly now. But still questionable is the drive, as it smells a bit lean. The RPM Tach on the Cluster is still dead? Will drive around to see if anything changes.

Are you using Tuner Studio?

Burn a log file and post along with your MSQ file.

Ok, here are the Logs and the current Tune.

Wideband?

NobleMiata 04-02-2013 10:47 PM

Innovate lc-1 on its way, so no. About a couple of days. Completely stock atm. Haven't had time to even get the gm iat on. But so far its running ok. The only thing noticeable is the lag when switching gears. Got 550cc injectors and 255lph fuel pump just sitting. Begi s3 being built as we type/speak.

My idea was to go step by step. Hook up mspnp2 make it run nice. Slap on iat. Then injectors and tune. Wideband gets here and get it on ASAP. Then hopefully the turbo kit would be just a bolt up and drive!

That was the plan. Rpm cluster tacho still dead. Matt said turn off tacho and I did but it still didn't work. So lost?

Your step by step plan is good, except you can't really tune until you have a Wideband, so add that and the IAT, and then start tuning. Until then, read as much as you can about MS tuning.

No idea why the tach does not work since your log file shows a good tach signal.

Alright John, well thanks for making my car idle right. I'm so confused on the Tacho, will keep reading. Again, THANK YOU

NobleMiata 04-02-2013 11:49 PM

Well, Thanks John for making my car idle right.

I'll keep reading and hopefully something comes up that makes my Tacho start jumping again. Weird, factory ECU no problem, MS says it's there but doesn't move it?

tach out > ON > tachout

I believed I have tried that. Under extended right? Does nothing.

Braineack 04-03-2013 11:34 AM

oh you have a 94. toss a 1K resistor in the diagnostics box betweeen IG- and B+.

NobleMiata 04-03-2013 12:19 PM

Please explain more as I am noobish. Sorry.

John151 04-03-2013 12:45 PM

Brain - the log file NobleMiata posted shows a reasonable value for RPM, so I assume the issue is with TS?

Braineack 04-03-2013 01:12 PM

He needs pull up on the dash-tach signal from the coils, that the stock ECU provided, but the new MS doesnt...

NobleMiata 04-03-2013 09:16 PM

Haha it worked brain. It is safe to leave the resistor their? Or is there a better fix? Thanks all, so far that is. Now onto gm iat!
