96 NA Base Map?

I just got my Megasquirt put in, but I ran into a bit of an issue. My car is a 100% stock 1996 1.8. I have a Megasquirt 1 3.0. I am looking for a basemap for the car, I can't seem to find one.

I tried this one: http://miataturbo.wikidot.com/megatune-settings

(the top one) and it started for a couple seconds, and when I revved it up it died and wouldn't start back up. Do I have a problem, or is it just because I need another base map?

Thanks!

Hard to say. Can you tell me why I hear a high-pitched ringing?

Try this: http://www.megasquirtpnp.com/gen1/mo...Map_012808.msq

The reason your car won't stay running on those msqs is that they are for 1.6 cars and you have a 1.8 = not enough fuel. I was going to tell you to start with the MSPNP base map but it looks like their site has changed and I don't see them where they used to be.

This is one of the last MS1 msqs I ran before upgrading to MS2. I was running hires 10g firmware, parallel install on stock n/a engine with stock injectors, don't remember if I had the COPs at that point so double-check the dwell settings.

That's what I linked to above. The first-gen MSPnP basemap for a '96-'97 car.

Thank you guys very much. I'm going to try out the msq tomorrow, i'm hoping that's my only problem. I have a brain built MS1 and I have triple checked the harness, so hopefully I'll finally get her running.

Thanks!

The first start (and the first drive) are always the toughest. It's probably a 50/50 split between those installs I've done where I said "wow, that was easy" and those where it takes a fair amount of tweaking before things start to settle down and you can actually consider the car to be "running."

Any advice? I don't know much about the MS, but I have read a little bit on how to tune. How much more difficult is it to tune with a narrow band o2 vs a wideband?

You kids have it easy now that Tunerstudio exists with its fancy live tuning function. That msq I posted above took dozens of iterations of logging & tuning with MLV to get it that good. And I had to drive uphill both ways.

Infinitely. Get a wideband. You can't do much meaningful tuning with a narrowband, since the only AFR range it can accurately measure is still unsafely lean at WOT, even without a turbo.

Any advantages over the LC1 over the AEM wideband? I was planning on ordering the AEM, but it seems like a lot of people like the LC1.

OK so I have the new base map, and it start for a second then dies. then it wont start up again. I believe it is a fuel pump problem, but the fuel pump is connected to the right place on the harness. For some reason hanging off the harness though I have another wire labeled fuel pump. It is a purple wire. Is there somewhere I am supposed to wire this up to? Thanks!

EDIT: Second purple is hooked up to pin 18 on the DB37 connector. I have a red and pink one hanging off too.

My LC1 was flaky as ----, I replaced it with an AEM after I trailered my car out to somewhere I could run it in circles and tune it and it decided it wasn't going to give O2 readings that day.

LC1 also had issues with rapid changes in AFR (throttle blips) sending it into some kind of error code that sometimes recover.

AEM has a considerably slower refresh rate but it ------- works 100% of the time (so far). Also no free air calibration.
