Default No RPM in TS

I am stuck after trying to get this second hand MS 3.57 working .

Current:
MS1 chip
V3.57 spark and Tach mods.
JimStim(dead no RPM other gauges work)
Manually wired in CAS for testing.
VR Mode

Currently I am trying to figure out what the voltage range should be on Pin 14. I don't have a scope, so testing signal by measuring volt range, and manually turning the CAS.

Currently, I got off the CAS, not hooked to the MS, a range of 0 to 1.5V for both CMP and CKP.

When hooked up the MS. I am gettting a range of 0 to 4.8V for Pin11 or CMP, but for Pin 14 I am only getting a range of 4.88 to 4.90.

So first, is measuring the Voltage like this work?
Second, what should the voltage range be for off Pin 14??

Also in TS I am get nothing from the Tooth Logger or the Trigger Logger.

who modded it?

I can tell you how to set it up for Hall inputs.

I did the mods.

Currently I have:
S12C to Jp1 pin 2(so that it can run either VR or Hall). Also tested and S12C is 12volt
IAC1A to JS8(pin 11)
IAC1A to 5volts

Spark:
Pad1 to IAC2B
Pad3 to Q16 Pin 2

Also I was running VR cause when testing with Hall setup, I was getting such a tiny tiny signal. Had to run the voltmeter in 200m to get an reading.

Any help you can give me Brain that would be amazing.

per Ben on the VR setup:

Spin R52 and R56 6 turns CCW, then spin R56 appx 2 turns clockwise.

Ok spun them as said and it made a small difference.

I am now getting a volt range of 4.84 to 4.89 on pin 14. Still getting nothing from the TS. Neither the RPM or Logger is showing anything?

Yea I am totally confused and lost on what is going on, and figure it is most likely something stupid.

Here is a full break down of what I have on for the mods.

Tach:
S12C(12 volt) --- resistor (Brown, Black, Red, Gold) --- JP1 (Pin 2)
IAC1A --- resistor (Brown, Black, Red, Gold) --- JS8
IAC1A --- resistor (yellow, Purple, Brown, Red --- 5V

Spark:
IAC2B --- Pad 1
Q16 (pin 2)--- Pad 3

Jumpers are:

JP1-- 1/2
J1 -- 5/6

Attached is the save from TS, just encase I am an idiot and it just an issue with my settings.

Thanks for any and all help, and hopefully that is enough information.

I've never set up an MS1 for 4G63 VR before. Try standard VR instead of inverted.
MS2 does work set up for VR inverted.

Just tested, and no difference between VR and VR inverted.

Just retest CAS on the car with stock ECU and works.

Also here are the values I am getting off the CAS when on the bench.

CKP::
@12 :: .55v
@3 :: .57v
@6 :: .57v
@9 :: .60v

inbetween .04V

CMP::
Between 12 to 1 :: 4.95V
between 6 to 7:: 4.95V
everywhere inbetween .05V

Looks like the CKP setup is missing a pull up.

hey Matt,

Are you basing that off the the bench test where I was getting .5Volts? If so that was with the CAS without the MS.

When the CAS is hooked up to the MS, I am getting a 4.8/4.9V signal. But unlike the CMP where I can get a full range of 0-5V. The CKP is allows at 4.8/9Volts.

I am really just lost and confused with this.

why not convert it to HAL input? that would be easy.

I have no preference for VR or HAL, but neither system seems to be working.

To convert to Hall:

Move JP1 to -- 2/3

bypass D1 and D2 with a wire so they go straight through.

remove r57

J1 -- 1/2

Jump XG1 to XG2

add a .1uF cap from Js8 to GND.

remove c30

Tach:
S12C(12 volt) --- resistor (Brown, Black, Red, Gold) --- JP1 (Pin 2) < --- change this to a 470ohm (Yellow, Violet, Brown, Gold)
IAC1A --- resistor (yellow, Purple, Brown, Red --- 5V < --- change this to a 470ohm (Yellow, Violet, Brown, Gold)

Well i made part of the switch to Hal and made some progress, finally I'll make the rest of the changes this evening and give you new report.

Thanks for the help.

UPDATE..

First thanks for all the help, I have made some big steps forward.

So I fixed my setup and switched to HAL and getting something. Currently when I first power up the MS, if I spin the CAS it will cause the rpm to spike and flat lines and will state flat line until I shut the system down the MS and restart it.

I few thoughts and theories that I need someone smarter to look over.

First I am getting what seems normal volts reading on CMP, but my CKP is stating between 4.89V and 4.9V. Is that normal, the small spike in RPM makes me thing all my tach mods are working.

Second , is that because I am having to power the CAS off the jimstim; that maybe I am not able to feed it enough power causing the signal to "fail".

Third, there is a short somewhere else on the board??

I currently still not getting anything on the Trigger or Tooth Logger, also currently without a laptop. So can't test the system on my car. Yes i know, once I get this finally ironed out, I'll be looking for a cheap laptop.

Thanks

Bryan, you need a scope to properly monitor the signals from the CAS, and I'm not sure if a .5 amp 12v power supply is adequate for the job.

I don't have a scope at home, but I do have a JimStim with working tach output you can borrow over the weekend.

Sweet. I'll give you a call and stop by soon. I need to reinstall the CAS first.

Just to give an update for everyone.

Borrow a Jimstim from Ben, and get a good RPM signal finally. After months of fighting with this thing, it seems to finally be getting somewhere.

I am currently testing out all sensor and looking up the few little things.

1) I get a failled to subscribe to DashComp to Output Channel Fidle/spark when first opening TS

2) the little knock sensor on TS is going freaking crazy when turning the RPM.

Time to look all that up.

Thanks again to Ben, Scott and Matt for all the help.
