99 MSII Working great then ?
I have the Abe PNP Board, MSII 1999.
Was working great, running very smooth, tune looking good. Driving to work I noticed the Dash Tach blip a couple times. On the way home the dash tach stopped working. Car still running fine, laptop showing RPM's just fine. 10miles to the driveway no probs. Jiggle the harness no Tach, turn the car off then the MS stopped getting tach input completely. Now MS is not seeing any tach input (of course will not start either), Could my laptop have corrupted the firmware? Don't see any burns or shorts on the board? Seems OK except for no RPM of course. Looking for a place to start before starting to replace components. Runs on factory ECU. Thanks PGillum |
First off, try reflashing your firmware. Did you solder up your board, and did you make sure you dont have any cold solder joints? Check those around the crank/cam input circuitry.

Check the jumpers, some of them can come off easy.

Well...
Reflashed the firmware still getting the "Red" RPM gauge. All the circuits look well soldered ( yes I soldered the boards but not a pro). Really a bummer cause the MSII was looking really promising, never have I been able to tune my AFR's that well. Am I maybe looking at some transistors on the adapterboard? It was going so well, had Dyno and track time scheduled! The Stim does not give me much help, POS, but the RPM gauge is white in TS. Leading me to believe a problem with the PNP board. Possibly overheated some transistors when soldering? |
It would be the tach output circuit if anything... two 1K resistors and a PN2222 transistor.

beats me to be honest, I havent had one of abe's boards in my hands, but I assume there'd have to be the tach output circuit built into the adapter board or mainboard somewhere...
but I misread your first statement. seems like it has to be something with the tach INPUT circuits, one of the signals from the the cam or crank sensors (or both) isn't outputting. Does TS have the "no sync" light on the bottom right corner when trying to crank? Check both connectors at the sensors and all the connections of the adapter board itself. take a composite log and we can see what signal it's not getting... |
Can't seem to find release 2.1.1b, the TS suit on DIY autotune says 2.1.1b but it is a. W/ release 2.1.0p the stim set to 99miata reads all rpm signals etc.
Can someone post 2.1.1b. Now I assume the MSII is working correctly, on to the adaptercard. Why I lost input/ output of tach not exactly at the same time? Also was not getting a sync when I was hooked up in the car? Also last time hooking up in the car was not reading clt, tps correctly. Going to get the composite log for Braineack when I can get the correct firmware back on. Advice needed. Thank You |
Sounds like a problem in your adapterboard or in the harness between it and the ECU. I would start by looking for the obvious like signs of a short or a burned component/trace.
We offer MS2E 2.1.0 release in our software package, which is the latest "stable" release. |
