After auto VTPS installed car idles high

hrmm So I checked the adjustment screw and it's all the way in (or what ever the lowest setting was, checked for leaks, nothing as far as I can tell. Could the tps be faulty? I wired it according to Joe's write up. It's idling at about 2000 then goes down to 1200 after little blips in the throttle..

-Do I need to calibrate the Auto vtps in MT?
-Could my IAC settings in MT matter?
- Also the PO decided to shave the inside of the throttle body to remove the small hump per say on the inside.
- Which way does the vtps need to be facing (mine is plug out) and which way does it need to be adjusted??

try calibrating it first, then ask questions.

p51hellfire 04-01-2010 05:26 PM

ok thats what I thought.
Just to recall that means going in to the settings on MT and hitting calibrate TPS right??

Braineack 04-01-2010 05:27 PM

well it would be nice if the MS knew exactly what it's seeing...

p51hellfire 04-01-2010 05:36 PM

ok will check back after that

p51hellfire 04-01-2010 07:23 PM

ok so weather or not the tps is plugged in i get the same number for both at closed and WOT. it keeps changing though i'll try it one sec later and it'll go up by one point. then another sec one more point only after i close the calibrate tps tab..... now what??

p51hellfire 04-01-2010 07:26 PM

well weather or not the tps is plugged in or not i get the same number also the tps value doesn't change from WOT to closed...

You wired it wrong.

p51hellfire 04-01-2010 07:32 PM

+1.

A TPS is just a potentiometer. No black magic. If it isn't showing a value, you wired it wrong.

+1 on wiring... I had the same thing.. I thought i did it right, but wasn't getting anything between closed and WOT.

I went back and triple checked my wiring. The way i actually did it was using banana plugs and alligator clips to create a temporary harness between the BMW TPS and the miata harness to make sure the wires were all correct.

use a multimeter if you cant figure it out.

p51hellfire 04-26-2010 11:16 PM

well found out the throttle body was "trimmed/modified" to much allowing too much air to pass.... The PO is an idiot glad I got it for free!!!! Also I noticed on my MS wiring harness that I have some VTS wires, I wonder if that needed to be hooked up as after checking multiple time about the wiring it still didn't read a thing

I just picked up an auto throttle body for my build. What did you do for wiring at the TPS? Got any pics?
