AIT sensor + intake manifold = Heatsoak?
I was considering drilling and tapping a hole in my intake manifold for my gm style AIT sensor. It is on the plastic intake piping now and im going to be going turbo soon. (begi s1) I was wondering, Will the intake manifold heatsoak and cause the AIT sensor to read higher than it should?
Thanks in Advance, Wes |
I wouldn't think so. The element would be more likely IMHO to pick up on the air temp inside the manifold than read the heat conducted into the sensor from the manifold.

If you do decide to do this let BEGI know so that they do not put a bung on the intake pipe for it.

The sensors heatsoak really bad in IC piping. They heatsoak worse in the intake manifold because it never cools off. Atleast when you're going down the road air rushes over your IC piping and it cools down.
The vibration from mounting it in the intake mani is also an issue. It has broken many sensors by dislodging the thermistor from the housing itself. If you want to do this, take the cage off the sensor and "pad" the sensor with silicone so it doesn't vibrate as much inside the cage. Do NOT get any on the end of the thermistor itself. |
So it would be a better idea to put it on the IC piping after the IC? If so i can just have begi put one on there for me.
|
You have to have it in the piping after the IC anyway.
And yes, it does heatsoak a lot in the factory plastic piping but it is easily tuned out. |
yeah, that seems like the best option, i will be calling tomorrow to order the s1 kit. YAY! anybody know about how long it takes them to ship it out?
|
It tooke BEGI about 3-4 weeks to get me my customized S1. Part of that time was spent though waiting for them to get in parts to make part of my kit and also waiting for me to send them my turbo charger to clock and make sure it works wiht my kit.

Yeah, i ordered it today and corky said 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 weeks

So good luck |
That sucks, hopefully my experience isnt the same. So is everything running well now?

i need to move my AIT, i have it pre-turbo just because that was the easiest place to put it.
