All my stupid MS questions...

Well finally hooked the battery up and after 2 hours of downloading drivers I find the USB cable was bad! Well got another one and behold the MS finally sees the computer and I get this error message:

Controller code version does not match signature in MSn-extra.ini

Expected MS1/Extra format 029y3***********in ini file

Received MSnS-extra Format 029q **********from controller

Serious problem

Help. Really was looking forward to turning the key today :vash:

follow the instructions on the manual about burning firmware.

patsmx5 02-23-2008 05:24 PM

Man, I had the same problem with my MS II install. I think you have to go find a file that says "copy.ini" Then, you run it or somthing like that. Cjernigan helped me through it, so I know he could help more. But try going to your megasquirt folder, then car1, then find that file and click it. There's also a ".bat" file you have to run as well.

Ok so after your recommendations I was going to follow all the install software instructions on the FAQ page:

Software Installation

This guide requires the following software;

1. MegaTune download from here Done
2. MSnSE (either the standard or the Hi-Res codes) MSnSe 029v, or MsnSE Hi-Res Where are these files???? I attached a screen shot below of this link and neither of these files are here?
3. and EasyTherm download from here Done.

Step 1
Install software onto your laptop. Done

Run the installation software for both MegaTune and EasyTherm and allow the software to install to the default locations. Done

Create a File called "EFI" on your C Drive and copy the zip file of your desired version of MSnSE into that file. Where is this mystery file? Even googled it and got nothing?

Stuck @ this part......

Then un-zip the file into the "EFI" folder.

Step 2
Configure MegaTune to 'see' the MSnSE software.

1) Open the MSnSE folder in "EFI" and run the "copyini" application. Once the file has been copied close the DOS window.

2) Then run the "edit-settings" application and make the following changes
i) Change the line "#unset MSNS_EXTRA" to # set MSNS_EXTRA" by highlighting the "un" and changing it to a double space.
ii) Change the default "# set MSI" (or whatever it is )to "#unset MSI"
iii) Click on 'File' then 'Save'

Replace the word "File" with the word "Folder" :)

patsmx5 02-23-2008 06:31 PM

Ok, download "msnse_hr" This is MS extra High Res. It's what your screen shot is. Download it. When done, create a folder to save it to, say "EFI" or "Damn folder" , whatever. After creating it, I dragged it to my desktop and dropped it there. Now, it's on my desktop, easy to find. Then, you have to "extact all files". this is the same thing as unzip. Just click on your new folder, and you'll see what you just downloaded. To the left, it says "extract all files" click it, extract them. Then, you can continue.

Ok got the software on the laptop and connected it to the MS in the car. The instructions say to open easytherm and change a few settings (Custom) and change the port it see the MS on!

The adapter USB/serial cable I have shows up on comm 9. Easy therm only had options for comm1-4???? Help

patsmx5 02-24-2008 01:07 PM

Go to file>control panel>system>hardware>device manager> Then click the + sign by "ports (COM & LPT)". See what it say's. Mine say's COM1. Does yours say COM9? Double click it. Make sure it's enabled.

A while back I was having problems getting my port to work. I had to uninstall the driver, then enable the device, then restart the computer. That fixed it.

IcantDo55 02-24-2008 01:44 PM

Ok in device manager I found how to make it communicate on comm 2. Fixed.

Next problem. Did all the steps for the Software install and now when I open megatune 2.25 I get:

Controller code version does not match sig in MSnS-extra.ini.
(see audit.log for where the above file was found.)

Expected "MS/Extra format hr_08*****************(found in ini file)
Received """" (from controller)

Table corruption may occur, this is usually a very serious problem.

Terminate megatune now?

Help?

patsmx5 02-24-2008 02:12 PM

It showed "received """" (from controller)" As in, it didn't receive anything?

What it expected is what you tell it in Megatune Configurator (MT CFG).

What it receives is what you have on the MS. What version is on your MS?

Did you run the copy.ini.bat file?

I followed the software install FAQ sticky exactly to the letter, twice.

cjernigan 02-24-2008 02:43 PM

Weird that it didn't show a real signature. You don't have the boot loader still installed do you?

Speak stupidease please. Whats a bootloader?

patsmx5 02-24-2008 02:52 PM

I "think" that's the little jump thing you set to download the firmware. You jumper it, download the firmware, then remove the jumper.

IcantDo55 02-24-2008 02:57 PM

Unless I missed it there was no mention of a jumper in the FAQ page of the software install.

Where is said jumper?

Another thing....whats an igniter and should it be unplugged I have been searching the board and found some post saying that.

Thanks

cjernigan 02-24-2008 03:15 PM

The ignitor fires the coils on 1.6 motors, 1.8 coils have integrated ignitors. When flashing the MS, if you don't unplug your coils or ignitor depending on motor it will hold your coils high and burn them up.

The jumper is only needed sometimes when reflashing firmware. I suggest using the MS2 downloader and the boot jumper. The boot jumper is 2 holes by the proto area, when flashing from corrupted or non MSNSE firmware you should use it.

IcantDo55 02-24-2008 03:17 PM

The tac was jumping all around when the MS was in the car and the ing was on. Was this my coils frying them selves?

Here's a pic of where the boot jumper thingy is on MS 1. Sorry pic is small, but it's a pic of the MS board.

Attachment 214393

miataz 02-24-2008 04:34 PM

soo if you dont get a strong enough spark that means your igniter is fried or coils?

Braineack 02-24-2008 06:42 PM

you didnt need to reflash anything, just load the proper 029v software on your laptop...

http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/ex...alpha/029v.zip

download this and then click copyini

then open megatune and configurator.

go to custom custom code variant, and switch it to msns-extra.

save and open megatune again, and connect to your MS.

the end.

but now you wiped off all the software and map that was preloaded, so you have to follow the instructions and redo the easytherm and flash the firmware and everything now.

this should have been key:
Expected MS1/Extra format 029y3***********in ini file

Received MSnS-extra Format 029q **********from controller

your computer was looking for the wrong firmware, but the MS itself had the proper software loaded. You shouldn't have reflashed anythign and you shouldnt have listened to the people who said to.

now you have to follow these instructions and redo everything.

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/sho...20&postcount=7

PM me your setup again and ill have to build you another base map because you simply wont have one anymore......
