Android Data Loggers?

I had been using Shadow Logger, but now I'm getting an error on my Android phone since the beta version has expired. I search the Google Play store and Shadow Logger is no longer in there. Two other apps pop up: msDroid & MSLogger.

Is Shadow Logger still available somewhere?
Has anyone used either of these other two apps?

Got it. Thanks for the link.

Has anyone here had any experience with the new crop of Android software to interface with a MegaSquirt? I've been thinking of ditching my homegrown Palm app for a Nexus 7 tablet, but haven't heard a lot of feedback as to how Shadow Tuner or MSLogger work in practice.

I like Shadow Logger. It logs well, but the screen readouts aren't quite optimized.

I use Shadow Logger occasionally. Right now it does a good job with logging, but Phil has a ton of plans for the future that he plans on implementing.

I'll buy a Nexus 7 when we get TunerStudio for Android.

^^ That's my plan right now as well. Really looking for a good excuse to get one.

It is being worked on. Phil wants you actually to be able to remotely tune from a phone.

Phone to small, me want tabret.

The current blue-tooth adapter thing is fucking awful though.

What makes the bluetooth awful? That's what I'm using with a droid x and haven't come across any connectivity issues.

I've worked on two cars with the bluetooth adapter and I can't ever hold a connection during tuning so I have to plug-in.

Only issues I've seen with BT is if you start changing a bunch of stuff really quickly, it will disconnect. IE just start going crazy changing all the cells of a whole 12x12 or 16x16 table. Normal use I haven't observed any real issues. I'm using the BT they sell on the TunerStudio site.

Well when I say phone, I mean anything running Android.

I have the bluetooth adapter that Phil sells and I have had no problems with connecting to my phone. The only times I have had disconnects have been when the device falls off the MS because I did not screw it all in.

What bluetooth serial bridge you using?

Enginerd 10-02-2012 04:08 PM

Ah yes, the computer bluetooth connection is a bit sketchy. The logs I've taken on my phone hold on to the bluetooth connection fine. Tuning with a laptop and bluetooth, I find Tunerstudio freezes up for a few seconds at a time, every now and then. I imagine that could be very frustrating tuning in real time...I only used bluetooth while tuning idle.

Since some Droid Tablets have USB (at least for charging and external storage/keyboards), could it be possible to envision USB cable connection (charge and MS communication)?
Or is it impossible to have a serial port in Android (keyboards might simulate something)?

BT work fine between phone and GPS in a race car (both on their own battery though), so it should be possible to get it to work properly if the noise from the ECU doesn't disturb the BT dongle.
But since a cable would be in there anyway (constant power never hurts), why not use it for the comm too.

Basically because of the type of USB chip most phones and tablets use you cannot create a serial-> driver. I looked into it a few years ago and once I hit that it physically was not possible I stopped researching.

It didn't used to be possible a few years ago, but a lot more android devices are shipping with USB host support. The Nexus 7 has partial USB OTG support, not sure if it could support USB to serial or not.
