Another ITB Question

I am putting this in the MS section, as this is where the ITB conversations are happening. In truth, a Hatech 2500 Elite is the ECU to be used.

Question: If one has DBW throttle control, can Alpha-N be successfully used alone, without a vacuum block and MAP sensor / dual table, etc?

This is the Ferrari project mentioned earlier. I realize that MS does not have DBW control, and that I may be better off in the Tuning Guild, but one never knows what knowledge is hiding in MT.net.

No experience with DBW or Haltech so take this with a grain of salt. But, Alpha-N is well, ...... Alpha-N. It's just a strategy that uses the TPS% against RPM to establish a load. But I'm positive you already knew that. The question of "is DBW and Alpha-N compatible?" is likely best answered by Haltech support. As long as the tps% is just a simple calculation and not some wildly skewed or complicated calculation (and even then), I can't see why it wouldn't work just as with any other means of throttle activation.

I suppose another way to ask the question would be: If I can control idle using DBW throttle control, would there be any other value in having MAP readings.

I am presuming that the dual tables and ITB mode basically use MAP for idle control, and then TPS and Alpha-N for all the rest of the fueling control.

AFAIK, yes, better idle and low load control is the main benefit to having a MAP sensor and some sort of speed density tuning as opposed to pure Alpha-N. Decel and other transitional scenarios as well.

Situations where the load increases but no tps% increase like ac on, fan on, power steering loads, etc. These are much better handled with SD.

Is it necessary for a running engine, no. Does it make it more refined, absolutely. Plus, how else would you know that you got your intake length right if you can't see MAP numbers higher than Baro numbers? Hey, it might be just a couple of kpa, but bragging rights are bragging rights.
