Another MS3 Basic Firmware Update Thread
Gents,
Wanted to start a new thread rather than thread steal or tack it on to my other thread. I updated from 1.2.0 to 1.3.4 yesterday. Now I'm going through the menus looking for anything that seems out of place. So here's question 1. Under Basic/Load Settings/ MAF Settings Tab, the Sensor Type is set to Voltage. Should that be Off instead? I thought the MS was sensing air flow using vacuum. Thanks, |
Upgrade from 1.3.4 to 1.4.1 before you really start messing with things. It is well worth it.
|
Sure sure, but I thought there were some things that needed to be fixed and saved to the controller beforehand since my 1.2.0 firmware was "obsolete".

Here's the current 1.3.4 tune. I wanted to see if she'd start up after following all the directions. She would run if I gave it some throttle, but otherwise would not idle. I only had a few error messages, and they were all about something I changed that I can't find now. I changed maximum rpm value from 9000 to 8000. Seemed innocent enough. I'll change it back when I can find it.
Unfortunately, I have the RED "Not Ready" light and she's "Not Synced". Any idea what I missed? I plan to do the 1.4.1 update later. Thanks, |
As far as idle goes mine was idling like balls until I turned on PWM Closed-loop, adjusted the idle VE table, and turned on idle advance and idle RPM timing correction. Now I'm just playing with WUE and it's almost acting like the stock ECU at this point.
For firmware I just followed what TorqueJunkie outlined in his thread and everything seems to be in good working order. There are a crapload of mismatches when bumping up, but I'm on 1.4.1 from 1.2.4 and nothing seems awry. *Disclaimer: Total noob* |
if you had PID values tuned, its now switched to basic mode and uses the slider. You can go back to advanced and plug in your PID values from prior.

I did have PID values tuned (right or wrong) and duplicated them in the new tune. She started right up. The green "Ready" light is now on, but she's still not synced. Thanks much, |

I loaded 1.4.1. She starts and idles without issue, but she's still not synced. That was easier than I thought it would be. The problem with 1.3.4 was my fault--I missed a pull down menu that needed updating.
Here's the tune with 1.4.1. I did three composite logs, but can't find a single one. Does that mean anything? Thanks, |
Are you sure you want to work in Deg C? Most folks on MT won't follow your logs.
Better flatten out your MAT Air Density correction. AFR Targets are quite rich, 95 kPa and up. Maybe that's what people do with supers? Suggest using AFR safety. Idle Advance Looks strange to me. Surely you don't idle near 95 kPa. Advance near 100kPa is quite retarded. I have no input on your lack of sync issue. I was thinking there was another thread about it. |

Awesome job at getting upgraded to the newest firmware. What do you mean when you say you can't get it to "sync".

Thanks again, |
If the car starts and runs then it is syncing with the cam and crank sensor.

Some indicators have changed their names and/or their functionality. Create a new dashboard.

this.

Please pass me an example. The correction did not look like that in version 1.2.0. I don't see what you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure it's my fault. Thanks, https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...e493856a6d.jpg This is where I saw the C vs F. Not sure how it is used. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...6b9e67c7bf.jpg This is at least closer to what you likely need, assuming you tune at around 70* MAT. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...ea0abf8fd6.jpg Idle occurs somewhere around 30 to 45 kPa, typically. When you go into idle advance, you are set to run somewhere around 17 BTDC, and the curve is not precise in the operating area. Personally, I make mine flat to 10* and use an idle RPM Timing Correction Curve similar to your curve on that. |

Bottom left of dashboard. Create a new one by clicking the tab.
I vaguely remember seeing what you describe. I think I just deleted that one annunciator and went on with life. I still have one that works correctly. You may want to see if you have two of them, one correct and one not. The one I still have is called, "Not RPM Synced" and is red until engine is synced. |
Alrighty then. I created a new dashboard, started her up and I don't have any disconcerting flashies. Shadow Dash still works. Awesome. I plan to take her for a ride tomorrow. We're having some unseasonably nice weather.
