Anyone using Cranking Taper Curve on MS3? Reasonable Values
I don't know how often folks in the Miata community use this feature and was wondering what values others use, if they use it at all.
I started with a spread of 100% evenly spaced to 75% after 120 events. Seems to work reasonably well. Thoughts? Thanks (Running 1.5.1) |
Running 1.4.0 Played with it. It was not useful. At 200 RPM, there are 6.6 events per second. A well set-up start cycle takes 2 seconds or less. I don’t think you’re doing anything anyway. I do use primiing pulse to wet the intake walls so the cranking pulses actually get into the cylinders. |
Thanks. That is good info. I guess I should have said, it didn't seem to hurt anything. I just played with it this morning since it was colder here.
A quick follow up please. The number of events at 200 RPM, how did you determine this info? Is there a field in MLV that I can reference? I didn't see one labeled 'events'. I appreciate the replies. Thank you. |
As I understand it, an event is a coil firing. 200 Rev / min * (1 min / 60 seconds) = 3.333 revs / sec. 4 cyl, 4 cycle engine sparks 2 times per revolution, so 6.6 events per second. |
I use it to good effect with e85 and cold starts. Tapers from 1 event to 6 events and then done. Acts as a second priming pulse sort of.
starting an e85 car at 15F encourages one to explore all of the knobs. |
