automatic tps for boost control question
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't some of you running 90-93 automatic TPS sensors on your cars to work with boost control?
I've got a 90 and this seems like a neat idea...for the fact I'm not sure where the fucker is: http://www.miata.net/garage/radiator...s/dscn0084.jpg that would be it correct? A friend of mine went to a pull a part place today and picked me up a new valve cover gasket and that sensor...I think...it was like a $1.50 so I wont feel bad if its not the right one. I've searched but can't seem to find any info on people swapping it in other than they have done it. |
I think I'm the only person here running MS boost control. And I don't have a TPS. You can do some neat stuff with it though.

ah...well shit, I saw someone mention it...but am I right with what I wrote, b/c that would be pretty cool.

I have an automatic tps installed on my car, and it is there with the specific intention of using it for throttle based boost. However, im not using it for this yet because i am not running on megasquirt. The only reason I mentioned this before was because you could map MS's boost control by rpm/tps or just rpm. I figured that getting it set up with the tps would help to maintain traction around corners and such.

is it a direct replacement? I can't seem to find much information about it.

An automatic TPS will not fit on a manual throttle body.
I'm pretty sure solomiata.net has info on it. |

A 1.6 throttle body from an automatic is a bolt-on replacement for a throttle body from a 1.6 manual. The 1.8 throttle body (which all have a variable tps) won't bolt up to the 1.6 manifold unless an adaptor plate is used.

Hey guys, I want you to know that 1.8L DOHC TPS (automatic or BPT), is the same as the V6 "K" serie use in the mx3/mx6/626/probe. It may be easier to find out on these engines.
BTW, mazda seems to use 2 kind: -JE50 18 911, TB need to open clockwise -KL01 18 911, TB need to open conterclockwise It's just a matter of wich side is mounted on the TB... |
You should just be able to map the boost to the rpm. Why go through the effort of putting on an automatic TPS?
Your just making more work for yourself. |
It would be useful to someone like him who uses such a small turbo that he would be getting into boost very easily. Might also be nice for autocrossing.
I think it would be kinda cool, but not worth the trouble. I think you can use the TPS of a Protege as well? I'm not sure though. |

it would be a nice data line for data logging too - right now all I see is an on/off signal in my logs. It would be nice to see the tps input for tweaking cruise and light acceleration AF so I can see the exact transisitons (accel/decel) between inputs.
